HAPPY, RIGHT?!

After hearing about a friend at school making a game and watching this hilarious Irish film called Fatal Deviation (How it relates to the main idea will be explained later on), I decided to try and make a game myself.

There's a few problems though.

Aside from the actual game development, I can't think of a plot at all yet I have characters already (And a rather unfortunate number of twenty nine!). I've thought of ideas on how they interact at some points, I can think of ways to divide them into groups and about six of them have a set role but no big or simple plot to bring it all together. There's also the matter of how I can have most of these characters be interesting to some degree. I can list most of these people's details (And for some, their personalities which desperately need fleshing out).

The six who have set roles are the following.

Bartley Brennan: A 54 year old man from Ireland who's the main character. He's a bit shy but he does have a few friends.

Grainne Sweeney: A woman also from Ireland who was friends with Bartley when they were younger. She was sort of his girlfriend but then for some reason which I haven't thought of yet, they'r separated. After all these years, she comes back.

Erland Löff: A Swedish man who just randomly asks Bartley about his personal life whenever they met each other. This will tie in to something but I'm not sure on exactly what. He also has a sibling and a grandfather.

Inge Löff: The aforementioned sibling. I have decided to make this character's gender ambiguous. I've also decided on making Inge the villain but a rather sympathetic one (Help on how to make a villain even a little bit sympathetic would help nicely).

Gustaf Löff: Gustaf would sort of be a Morality Pet for Inge. For Gustaf, I'm kind of aiming for a personality like what the Grandad in Outnumbered (Couldn't link to the page) has. Also, at some point in the story, he's in a wheel chair.

Sigmund Vranitzky: He's sort of a vigilante investigator. He'll have a small relationship with Inge (For any possible Umineko fans reading this, think about Lion (Or Leon) Ushiromiya and Willard H. Wright, it's something along the lines of that.).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, the crappy Irish I mentioned earlier on sort of inspired me in a way to have the main character (And quite a few others) be Irish.

What kind of game is it anyway? FPS? RPG? Visual Novel? The kind of game can influence what plot it'll have.

And besides what kind of plot do you want? Comedy/romance? Adventure? Survival horror?

[up] Ah yes, about that. I'd say it's a sort of Sand Box style JRPG, something sort of like Nier what did. As for plot, I think small mix of mystery, action and romance would work. Could it?

A sandbox-style JRPG (can't imagine such a game at the moment) with a plot with action, romance and mystery? Yeah it could work. In fact those things mesh together pretty well.

Sorry, haven't played Nier. Anyway...

Here's a very basic framework for a plot.

  • Have some sort of big incident take place. Monsters start appearing, weird stuff happening, your call.
  • Figure out how this incident affects your characters.
  • Add stuff as you see fit. Symbolism, plot twists, etc.

Look at that framework and see if you get any ideas. If not, we can try being more specific.
