Like I said, only it's action scenes are over the top, it's plot is pretty much played seriously with it's themes of mythology, transhumanism, and as a gripping character piece.
While TTGL, of course, is nothing but a series of vapid action scenes and shouting, having none of the down-to-earthness of the animu with the giant purple face and alien robot tugboat clown.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.Is that Penchinon?
Become the fang for those who have none! Help FanserviceFTW!Yep, I believe so. Nothing over the top about that at all, right Clawshrimpy?
Watch SymphogearThat's just a character design! the plot is about as serious as Takahashi's other work.
Oh come on, I was joking. Learn to take some jokes, damnit, this is why you keep arguing, You take Too much seriousness into this.
Watch Symphogearmind if...
RIRIRIRIRIIRIRIRIRIRIIRIRIRIRIRIRIIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIIRIRIRI
DAMN THAT PURPLE ROBOT
Become the fang for those who have none! Help FanserviceFTW!I can take a joke, I just can't tell when people aren't being serious.

You don't act like it, and you can tell by the smileys.
Watch SymphogearWhen I'm debating something I really care about I tend to take what's said at face value.
Serious question; are you an Aspie, Shrimpy? Full disclosure, I am myself.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.Characterization and the seriousness of the plot have nothing to do with turning your brain off! If anything, accepting the very existence of mechs in anything but science fantasy should qualify as turning your brain off! They're just not plausible or even practical!
And as a side note, TTGL's cast undergoes some rather drastic development over the course of the series, especially Simon and Rossiu. And can you honestly tell me TTGL doesn't take itself seriously? The whole show, absurdities and all, is nothing but Serious Business.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialThat is true.
Inside their universe, all that stuff makes sense. Gao Gai Gar was designed by a guy that usually writes Real Robots, that's why everything makes a lot of sense, but TTGL is a "pure" Super Robot, it doesn't need to make sense to us, as long as it does in-universe.
I think it's like that, I haven't watched too much of it
Become the fang for those who have none! Help FanserviceFTW!I am, what of it?
And then there's stuff like the Eraser Head, a giant rubber which sucks in explosions (somehow) and shoots them safely into orbit.
Nothing weird there, guys!

What's precedent ever done for us?I am too, Scherzo, but that does not give him license to be an ignorant ass.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI never got what Eraser Head was...
Become the fang for those who have none! Help FanserviceFTW!Well I mean its just the absolute stubbornness which reminds me of how I was when I was younger. It honestly kinda reminds me of how Chris-Chan perceives this weird sectarian conflict between Aspies and HF As. Just because I don't like Gao Gai Gar and like TTGL, doesn't mean TTGL made me dislike GGG. You shouldn't blame a show for the opinions of its fans.

And I don't. GGG just doesn't sound like my thing. Not that Clawshrimpy helped mind you, but if I wanted to watch it in the first place, I would've.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial...I was directing the last part at Shrimpy, not you. Could've made that clearer. :/
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I really didn't mean that. I mean that the "perception" of the genre changed a lot when TTGL aired. net reviews of Super Robot shows would become very critical of other shows just because it wasn't the same kind of thing TTGL was. Even ones like Shin Mazinger which were clearly trying to ape it's success as hard as it could.

You know not everyone thinks like you, Shrimpy. Just because you see this conflict between TRUE and HONEST Super Robot fans and TTGL fans doesn't mean that it exists. People will make more shows like TTGL because people like those shows, its as simple as that.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.
Is it okay if I like GGG and TTGL equally? As I like Fafner, GXS and Getter?
