Too much adorableness
I've played the original one on PC quite a long time ago...it's pretty ok, all things considered, but the artifact hunting can get annoying after a while...sometimes it's fun to turn on plasma shield just to ram enemy ships...
Also: get turrets! They're awesome!

Ramming with the Plasma Shield was somewhat impractical for me. Fighters are too fast for me to ram them enough to hurt. EMP and Overload work a whole lot better, especially in the former's case. Once EMP reaches Level 3, it temporarily disables the engines of enemy fighters, so you can pick them off while they helplessly drift.
I honestly favor EMP over Timeshock, mostly because EMP is easier to use. A high level EMP gets a chain effect that targets up to four or five (not sure on what the maximum was) enemy fighters, whereas Timeshock only affects targets in close proximity. Plus, EMP also disables weapons, so even after they get their engines working again, they're still effectively helpless.
As for the Darkstar's ship upgrades, I like to focus on Wings because in Space Sims I prefer to be a dogfighter. Plus, maxed Wings look freaking AWESOME!

Bumped this cause I feel that this subject needs more attention...cause you know, no one ever documented this game until I came along.
As awesome as the Darkstar is, I wish that I could fly the ships used by the other races, especially the Arrack and Thul ships. Y'see, the fighters used by each race has special unique abilities. Arrack fighters can use "Microjumps" to blink out of your field of vision, and the Thul have cloaking devices.
Plus, some of the other ships look amazing...

Okay, first off, I am totally surprised that this game has been the radar for so long. There wasn't even a page for Darkstar One on the site, but with some luv'n'care, I've remedied that somewhat.
I MIGHT consult the repair shop to get some help on the page (you have no idea how much it needs), but for now, I'll bestow the honor of a forum thread unto Darkstar One.
