Sal's friend Marcie has a job and a place off-campus.

I still think she should room with Becky if only because of the narrative convenience.

Yeah, I think that's going to be the case. After Becky gets introduced suddenly we learn that Marcie isn't a student, lives alone, and works a lot.

Becky both does and doesn't fit in with Sal's circle of.

...Okay, I'm not sure "friends" is the word.

"Friends and Malaya" maybe? Or, actually, she gets along with Carla well enough, but I'm not sure they're "friends" either, so "Friend, acquaintance and Malaya."

I mean, Becky is rebelling a fair bit. What with her hair. And the evolution stuff.

But she seems to still be Christian and also comes from that background as much as Joyce does.

She and Sal already room together at the moment, (which doesn't mean much given how little Sal is in her room to begin with) but having that sort of overlap in peer groups with Joyce would be weird.

Well, Marcie doesn't really have a character outside of Sal, even her thing with Malaya exists in reaction to how Sal needs Marcie as her One Friend, so I'm guessing it's just gonna be established as a way for Becky to have a home, and won't actually involve Becky joining with Sal's posse for late night Walmart drinking.

It'll just be a way to keep Becky around.

I feel like Becky moving in with Marcie will be used as an inroad to give Marcie more characterization, rather than driving her into further Satellite Character-dom.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

@relationships I'm against happening: I'd want to avoid any relationships from the old universe, with the exception of Robin/Leslie, mostly because I can't imagine either of them being with anyone else. I honestly have no idea who I want Joyce to wind up with. No one in the cast really fits well with her romantically, I think.

Honestly, I kind of hold a torch for Joe/Joyce.

Plus, he's the only dude in her sphere who likes girls. Unless a new character were introduced, or if Walky and Dorothy were to break up for some reason, he's the only viable of her potential love interests right now.

Dorothy x Mike.

If Willis pulled that off, I'd give him an award.

I think it has to do with the status quo being shaken up. She can't afford to be complacent anymore.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

"That's my job" says Ruth, who actively resents actually doing her job.

Could we stop with the "Ruth never does her job" thing? Because multiple pages show her doing her job correctly. So far the only times she hasn't are when its played for comedy (like throwing Joyce's gloves away), when it comes to Billie, and when she was drinking herself into a coma.

Otherwise we actually get to see her standing out in the hallway, checking in on people, etc.

Hell, one of the first things she does is try to help one of her charges (Dorothy) deal with breaking up with Danny. She isn't completely ignorant of her duties.

No, but she's a lot worse at her job than any positives would possibly even out. Also the beginning of this arc had her going on about how she doesn't want to talk to the dorm about the shooting and had to have Billie force her into doing it, and Joyce specifically; she tried to get Billie to do that.

"Ruth sucks at her job" isn't just a legitimate interpretation of her character, it's an actual plot point.

Anyway, I don't think a repeat abuser being an asshole, but this time it's a joke so lol, works for me. Ruth's abuse can't be a joke because nigh every instance of it has been her just being a regular run of the mill abusive asshole. Destroying personal property and slapping cartoon dicks onto people would be funny if it wasn't by somebody who's done worse but had it played dramatic and serious.

Well, watching global news is none of her job's business, but she definitely should've gotten full information about shit hitting the fan right there on the campus.

So like, the last panel made me kinda uncomfortable, but I'm not really sure why. Billie and Ruth's story employs a lot of black comedy, I've laughed before at stuff like the "our funeral" line, but for some reason "I'm too busy drinking myself to death" just kinda came off weird to me. Like, it felt as if it were manufactured as a punchline, I guess.

EDIT: So I've noticed lately that there's a lot of Sarah focus in the preview panels.

I'm thinking we're going to find out what Dana's been up to, and maybe Sarah didn't actually help her as much as she thinks she did.

"Utopic scenario: Ruth manages to convince the management to charitably give room to the poor girl that almost got shot on their grounds; Billie gracefully surrenders her room for the purpose; Ruth give up her RA privilege of non-shared dorm to room with Billie. Then they go and rub it in Mary's face. After Carla does a celebratory round of skating across the hallway, Ruth reglues her wheels because they're still not allowed."

A more realistic positive scenario would be Ruth biting the bullet and taking the situation to the principle, ans confessing about Becky and her relationship. Carla then gets a small punishment for skating in the halls and picking a fight, while Mary gets a muuuuuch bigger one for misgendering Carla. Ruth is of course fired and while the principle can't just let Becky stay there he gets her in contact with Leslie who finds a solution to the problem. Dorothy isn't punished for trying to hide her since being held at gunpoint is the definition of 'Already suffered enough'.

Could the university authorities really inflict a serious punishment for a one-line (and, frankly, ambiguously phrased) insult, spoken in anger during a fight in which there was fault on both sides?

When it's misgendering they should.

But she's got enough plausible deniability if she says she wasn't calling her a boy, but a dick.
