....That's the point of subtlety, isn't it?
Unless of course, you're one of those people...
Willis has pointed out numerous times in the past that he's tried to put real-life symptoms and expressions of prejudice in the comic and that, because they're not the more overt references to the subject people are used to seeing in fiction, he gets continuous complaints that he's being too subtle. So you would think, after the whole "you came out whiter" fiasco, and Willis having to explain Walky's "generically beige" comment and what "good hair" means—yeah, I think maybe the readers would be looking a little closer at seemingly innocuous things people say to see if they are perhaps missing some real-life nuances Willis is trying to include. But I guess not.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. It can only be too subtle if it's important to the plot and is meant to be foreshadowing. As it is right now, it's only on the level of bonus trivia.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...It will probably go the way of Walky-Sal-Racism (with little references until one obvious coming to point), only with less confusion and less misunderstandings out of universe. Hopefully.

Read my stories!"Is Ethan gay in this universe?"
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Yeah, I thought it had just been implied.
I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117I believe Willis flat out said in his tumblr that he will be more obvious eventually.
Specifically, he got an ask saying it is kinda lame if Carla's transexuality was only referred in coy nods like it have been so far. Willis reassured it won't be the case.
Anyway, yeah, it have only been implied and the implication is probably not meant to be immediately picked up by all readers. However, eventually it will become important and then those implications will become Reread Bonus.

Except she decided it was hilarious when it was on the doors of a bunch of other women. So.
She specifically called it a 'hate crime' when she thought it was only her door.
Yeah, I thought it was feminism too buuut now that this other evidence has been pointed out (such as the fact she was okay when it was everyone) it makes a lot more sense.
Eh, I don't really see it, but Word of God means there really doesn't have to be any evidence.
And it being done to the doors of a bunch of other women wouldn't make it less misogynist if misogyny was the problem.
Also, Willis doesn't strike me as the sort of writer that would do straw feminism. Rather the opposite, in fact.
I mean, aside from the possibility of criticizing TERFs, I guess.
Oh, agreed. But this feels a bit like Rowling's "Dumbledore is gay" proclamation to me. Unless the author says something, anyone could have had sufficient "evidence" brought up against them.
Sucks being called out on your shit.
I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117The image that first came to my head from the term “stigmatized animal” was a squirrel with stigmata.
Secret Squirrel died for your sins, Chip and Dale. Never forget. NEVER FORGET.
Yeah, that avatar's a 'Shop of my real face. Why a squirrel?
Fresh-eyed movie blogI honestly don't know. It's the first animal that leaped into my head
Maybe because "stigmatized" begins with an "s"?
Yeah, that avatar's a 'Shop of my real face.So is this story happening alongside the last storyline, in which case we know where Billie is and what....or should I say who...she's doing?
I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117We also would've accepted "OWNED, BITCH!"

My point is that it's too subtle for everybody who didn't read other walkyverse stuff that may have revealed it (did it?) and/or is not examining every character for "could they be trans?"
