As the aforementioned Agony Booth critic who hates both this and It's A Wonderful Life, my opinions on the film itself are well-known, but what disturbs me most about the fans are their Orwellian tendency to try to drive any and all criticism of the film off of the internet, from constantly removing the quotes from negative reviews from Repo's Wikipedia page to outright bullying haters out of forums on other sites.

To show you just how paranoid these people are, about a year ago I decided to try and have a civilized conversation with some of the fans to find out why they liked it (you know, aside from the whole "you just don't understand" garbage that still gets thrown at me even today). To that end, I went to the biggest Repo fan forum I could find to try and speak to their webmasters, since I figure if you run a fansite, you must really like it.

They wouldn't even let me register in the forum so I could email them. I used my real name and let them know it was me and why I was there, but rather than defend themselves, they just assumed I was there to cause trouble and wouldn't let me in.

Such a paranoid fanbase can't possibly be healthy...

I'm kind of an "ex-Repo-fan". I was attracted to it because I was desperate for something else in my overly specific "sci-fi musicals" niche. I became an ex-fan when I realized that Repo lacked the substance of the other sci-fi musicals I liked. The goth-ness was also a turn-off.

EDIT: Wait, why do you hate It's A Wonderful Life?

Message of It's A Wonderful Life: Shut up and take it.

Why would I get behind such a film?

GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVES!!!!!

NO ONE WANTS A THANKLESS JOB! HOW SELF-ABSORBED PEOPLE CAN BE!

SHE'S ADDICTED TO THE KNIFE!

It's the XX Ist Century...[What's your favourte goth band?] CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE!!!

There's just two things missing from this movie: Rotti confessing his crimes and the Repo Man killing him with mighty laughter!

Otherwise the movie's not bad, but it's kinda bratty and weak. It relies too much in Refuge in Vulgarity, doesn't take Refuge in Audacity far enough where it would really count, and seems rather shallow and lacking cleverness. It's one thing, not to fear to wade through filth in order to reach your goal. It's another to waddle and splash around in it and forget why you're there in the first place.

Also, even operas don't have every damn scene sung. They use sing-song voices, but there's still a lot of spoken dialogue, usually.

And the word "genetic" really gets abused horribly, given how no actual references to how genetics work are included. Couldn't they just call it "heritage" or "legacy"?

Wasn't this movie made with leftover Saw money?

Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great

Is that a bad thing?
