Don't most appliances and measuring tools come with a metric scale on it, alongside the Customary units?
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!

@Cats Nice job sliding down slippery slopes throughout the whole thread.

Drop it for base-2 metric and then we'll talk.
And contrary to what it says, hexadecimal should be used and it should replace decimal in all applications. Maybe that would help reduce how much people misunderstand computers.

Is there anything really worth bringing this back to life? I think not. Locking.

Exactly.
Anyway, no-one has appeared to have offered any pointers on metric...
I think road signs should be to the nearest 500 metres, besides those in yards, where the same numbers are in metres. (e.g. 200 yd = 200 m)
The following are for road signs which have been put into miles:
i.e. 250 m or less = 0 m
251 to 750 = 500
751 to 1000 = 1 km
So, 1/4 mi = 400 m ~ 500 m
1.5 mi = 2.4 km/h ~ 2.5 km
5 mph ~ 10 km/h (it's actually 8 km/h)
10 mph ~ 15 km/h (it's actually 16 km/h)
30 mph ~ 50 km/h (it's actually 48 km/h)
50 mph = 80 km/h
60 mph ~ 100 km/h (it's actually 97 km/h)
70 mph ~ 115 km/h (it's actually 112 km/h)
100 mph = 160 km/h
