And the (possibly hypothetical) loonies come out... Gotta love the sixth villain with the Hello Kitty stickers on the mask.

One gathers that Deus pays Vale well. There's standard martial arts adept bodyguard rates, and there's the Putting Up With The Boss's Cackling bonus.
= Spindriver =Is somebody gonna pick up that phone?
Oh, and incidentally, a couple people have taken a crack at the bit of Arabic and, much as a few people predicted, it comes out to something roughly like "So, I'm dead, am I? Interesting," suggesting that this is the person who Maxima said could matcher her power but was dead.
Do we even know what she's got in the way of family? Though I'd guess that her comics shop colleagues probably count, and are concern enough...
Now, odds of Arianna believing a word that Max is saying?
= Spindriver =No one's made any references to Sydney not having parents. Sure, she's an adult, so it's not like it would come up every five minutes like it would with a kid, but they weren't mentioned to be dead during the background check, and when Sydney was explaining the origin of the "Jr." in her name, she didn't imply her father was dead.
Sell the comic shop? So she owns it? Did we know this?
Trump delenda estPart-owned, probably. I think it was at least implied in conversations in the very early strips.
= Spindriver =Actually, now I look, it's on the cast page — the notes on Halo and Joel mention the set-up.
= Spindriver =Hee... Hypno-boobs...
So I was thinking about the Colonel and how much her sheer arrogance that a show of power will scare everyone into compliance annoys me.
Then I started thinking, would I be as annoyed if the Colonel were a man?
Then I felt bad.
In fairness, there's also the flipside: If people aren't scared into compliance, they'll be lashing out at her and the team rather than civilians. It's far from a perfect plan, but it's not necessarily a bad one.
I'm more worried about my possibly conditioned and subconscious sexism.
On a side note, the prior strips about how to reduce collateral damage in superhero fights were quite well done too. ^_^ And I definitely like the idea of the completely intangible guy who lives just to mess with the heroes by popping up in front of them and making them hit secondary targets...
And Something Finally Happens. (No, really, that's the title the author gave it).
Let's see, the closest heroines are Anvil and Maxima and Anvil's already annoyed over her blouse. I figure this to be about a one page fight, if that.
Trump delenda estI had to read the comics before I got the exchange between Maxima and Arriana, more or less them silently communicating that thi is not a PR stunt, as with the bank. And yes, it sounds like Anvil may indeed be the one to throw the first punch.
Given that Anvil is defined to have very good kinetic absorption powers, it may be more that the bad guy is induced to throw the first punch, and then discovers this is a mistake,
= Spindriver =Like I said, a one page fight, although I'll admit I didn't see it ending with a nose boop and since he seems to be with a gang the full battle may take longer unless the other bad guys crap their pants, do the sensible thing and run like hell.
Trump delenda estWell, he told Maxima that her team was outnumbered, and he may be down but not out himself, so I think we'll get a bit more action yet.
= Spindriver =Yeah but when you factor in that what is presumably the strongest member of the bad guys was taken out by a "nose boop" delivered by the second strongest member of the good guys I would definitely be looking into the "crap my pants, run and join the Salvation Army" option.

Maxima's view on what effect her speech will have. Next comic, on Thursday, is supposed to show the other side of what might happen.
