I wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this, but here it is.

I want to build a rig for playing Worldof Warcraft and maybe a few other games, but I don't know the first thing about what parts to get. Also, it would be nice to get a few part recommendations especially on the cheap. One more note I plan on getting these parts over a period of a few weeks to a couple of months.

Right now, what I know I'll need:

  • Monitor
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
  • Wireless Driver
  • Graphics Card
  • Motherboard
  • RAM
  • Memory cards
  • Possibly a CD drive
  • Fans
  • Wall adapter (if it doesn't come with the case)

Please help me out here. Thanks!

You should check out Newegg.com. The reviews on there can be very helpful.

I just built myself one. Used the Ars Technica March 2011 System Build Guide. Haven't done any heavy-duty gaming with it yet, but it rated better on the tests built into Windows than my roommate's did, and his is pretty awesome, so it'll do definitely do it.

For the hell of it, I decided to do a little research concerning hardware price difference between Israel and North America, using the "Very Good" system from the guide above as a point of reference. Since the guide is a tad unspecific, I used the prices of medium-low spec models.

  • 1TB HD: 269NIS
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM: 520NIS
  • ATI 6870: 1095NIS
  • AMD 955: 565NIS
  • ASUS M5A87 (couldn't find M5A97): 399NIS

LIST PRICE MINUS CASE AND PSU: $485
ISRAEL PRICE MINUS CASE AND PSU: 2848NIS = $797

CONCLUSION: There are people out there who don't know how good they've got it.

So if I know next to nothing about hardware or the terminology involved, where's a good place to start?
