My aunt lives in California. I'd like to give it a try someday. But I hear the cost of living is high.
And frankly, I'm unemployed.
I'm going there for a wedding in a couple months! Got cousins there. And a uncle Mom wants to go see afterwards. He works at Berkley. *shrug* Don't really have an opinion on it.
California is a nice place. But its politics are hopelessly broken.
Democracy is the process in which we determine the government that we deserveProbably!
What's wrong with California's politics? <Curious>
Two words Tomu: Direct Democracy.
Too many damn initiatives being passed by the citizens (directly, duh) causes a whole host of problems. Especially since CA has a few million urbanites and a couple hundred thousand non-urbanites.
Man, I wish *I* was an urbanite :(
Actually, maybe I am. I mean, I live in Savannah in an apartment complex... it's not really DENSE city, but I guess it's still city... hmmm...
Savannah...?
I didn't know America had annexed a bit of the Sahara.
EDIT: Oh, right. I'm guessing a city called Savannah.... Must be terrible to tell people you live in Savannah.

Well, once I have to append "Georgia" onto the end, yes.
Especially after Russia invaded Georgia a few years back!

Ah, I see. But yes, the system of democracy in CA, works well in Switzerland, where political opinion is pretty much so-so, but not in CA - even I, a person who has never set foot in America - knows is fraught with political danger.
Great, now you have me thinking of Arnaaaald wandering around the streets of LA with a commando knife in his teeth, dolled up in a suit while trying to avoid the press.
He's no longer Governor, is he?
I think there was a case where there were two different initiatives which canceled each other out. Both got the amount of signatures needed to pass or something like that.
Panic ensued as to whether it was a repeal or something like that.
Okay, California sounds retarded.
But at least it's a blue state. I dislike living in the reddest district of a deep red state. It makes me feel unwanted.
<is smug>
I live in the reddest constituency of a red city. (i.e. Labour).
It amuses me when the "red" constituency is "labor."
"Labor" is supposed to be the base for the Democrats in America. Heh.
Tomu@How about living in one of the bluiest states in America and getting eyes from others because you are a Republican and Conservative. All I can say in Rocklin its much more conservative but the people are as nice as can be and it has many great shopping places to go to.

I hide my atheist socialist communist space-alien roots as much as possible just to avoid drawing the ire of my fellow human beings.
Though if I went a bit north-Downtown-that's the 12th district, which is actually pretty blue.
Tomu, whats wrong with living a red county?
I live in a 3L 2C 1LD county
Dutch LesbianAll I can say you will fit right in either San Francisco or San Jose.Just between you and me Tomu I would go with San Jose because it out diversified San Fransisco and it has many great job opportunities. Also Downtown San Jose has great festivals in the summer,Jazz Festival and Juneteenth celebrations.Don't forget Christmas in the Park is an all time favorite.

...I find it ironic that we use red for Republicans and blue for Democrats, when red is associated with communism and blue with democratic capitalism...
I am now known as Flyboy.USAF@A lot of foreign parties share the same colors. But remember the Republicans used to be blue and the Democrats used to be Red.I think a certain mix up happened to change it.But that's politics.
But yeah you will see a lot more conservative folks in California more when you go up North.
Well gee Joy, can you recommend me an apartment? :P
Nah, I can't even find a job down here and have less than 100 in the bank. I somehow doubt I'd magically find a place for myself if only I was in California. Right now, I'm only surviving by sponging off my mom.
Though, at least we're getting food stamps.
@OP: Let me know when you want to nuke San Francisco; I could settle for Berkley.
Tomu@I'd say in California go to San Jose and find a apartment in Campbell its on Baker Street and I used to live in that apartment.I don't know if it has any openings but I have fond memories of it.Plus there is a cheap place where you can get groceries and it is just a few walks away.Believe you would like this place.

Calling from the state where the grass is always greener. Here is where you get to talk about my home state which is the Golden State and where you can be your great liberal self except in a few parts.
