I think I have too much caffeine (or Milo in this case, I noticed that I've been drinking it everyday); that's why my imagination's been going wild these days.
Before I explain what the fic is all about, I'm still in the brainstorming stage (got this idea about three days ago) and the fic won't be out in FF.net till mid or late 2012. So don't expect it to be out so soon. I'm creating this thread to hear your opinions if the ideas I put into this fic could work. Hope that I avoid going into a hiatus,; I used to have a nasty habit of discontinuing my fics midpoint, because this fic is going to be really long. (Long, as in 50+ chapters, multiple arcs.)
The fic is pretty much a combination of Persona 3/4-esque elements, dreams (something like Inception, but contrary to what you think, I have never watched Inception...yet), certain Homestuck elements, an ancient conspiracy going on with a Final Fantasy Type-0 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII crossover mixed altogether. Okay, it's going to sound dry, but it sounds a lot more exciting in my head.
Prompto's the new kid in the block and entering 10th grade in one of the best schools in his new home (still thinking of city name, maybe borrowing one of the names in either one of the two games). He made some new friends (Noctis and gang), new dorm mates (all the students in Class 0) and his life's going smooth sailing with everything going right for him.
Well, not really.
Around a month after Prompto settled in, weird things happen to the students studying in that school he attends. When they sleep (and then dream), he, along with his buddies (including Stella) and dorm mates all come together to a collective dream (a Dream Land named Somnius), and the same happened to the students studying in the school all the main characters are attending. Making a distinction with the rest, the other students don't remember dreaming about entering Somnius once they woke up. (Un)Fortunately for our main characters, they do and they are now forced to fight and figure out the reason why everyone is in Somnius in the first place, as well as finding out the mysteries of Somnius. As the plot progresses a group of people in some sort of mysterious ancient conspiracy starts threatening both Somnius and the real world.
There are rules in Somnius, since everyone's in a collective dream and unless they are in their personal dream, they cannot apply their own dream laws in Somnius. (In short, everyone's a Reality Wraper in their personal dreams.) To solve this problem, the Basic Laws of Somnius comes into play:
1. Anything the character think of can appear in front of them in just a whim, like summoning your weapons, change of attire or make an animal appear. But there's a limit; they can't change the environment and do bigger stuff so as to avoid Game-Breaker situations. Despite being set in a dream world, the law of physics in the real world can be applicable to certain situations in Somnius.
2. You can be killed as many times as you want in Somnius. You'll be brought back from the dead. But there are side effects to this and some of these can be serious. Once you go back to reality after being killed too many times in Somnius, the person will suffer from ailments such as migraines, high fever and the likes. The lesser you are killed, the better.
3. There are certain ways to be killed off for real both in Somnius and in the real world. I haven't fully thought of the conditions behind it, but the characters have to be careful.
Okay, criticisms are welcome, but make sure they are constructive.
