There was a rumor going around the Silent Hill subreddit around the time of the Video Game Awards that Konami was resuming development on Silent Hills, with Kojima and co.

Obviously, the odds of that happening are infinitesimally low considering how bad the fallout between those two was, but they still could resume development without them.

I'm not expecting anything decent, though. Konami is shit, the only good thing they've done in recent years has been rereleasing the Castlevania games, and greenlighting the Castlevania anime, both of which required basically no real involvement from them.

wild mass guessthey're both mobile titles
wild mass guess They're $60 and have the quality of Contra: Rogue Corps.

Also they're pachinko.

I can't tell if either of you are joking because the odds of something like those happening are extremely high.

Actually, those are low because they've ALREADY made those two games last year.

This is a new announcement with voice acting.

So apparently there's been a leak that Konami is actually working on a Silent Hill reboot / revival with at least some of the original Team Silent...

No, a different leak from the last three that said they were working on a Silent Hill reboot / revival with at least some of the original team.

This one's for real.

Seriously though, either it's real and this has been the worst kept secret in video game history, or it's another fake and people are getting their hopes up over nothing.

Even if it is real, there's no guarantee it's going to be good. It's Konami.

This is more to do with Konami, but...

Apparently, a 16-year-old high school student in Tokyo was arrested for threatening to bomb Konami and kill employees via comments regarding the mobile version of eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020, claiming the game suffered from connectivity issues that allegedly made him lose in matches.

Wow. Just...wow. While Konami has kept doing inexcusable things towards its employees (Kojima, females) and the gaming community (the less than pleased reception towards Metal Gear Survive and Contra: Rogue Corps and especially their behavior towards handicapped players), but you know what?

Threatening to bomb and kill the employees of a company DOES NOT make things better. It just makes YOU look INSANE... sad

[up] That... does not even kinda look official. It's using the logo of the first game over a generic smoke background as a header, a screenshot from the movie as its avatar, it's retweeting random fanart, there's no verified checkmark, neither @Konami or @KonamiUK have mentioned it, despite both tweeting about Silent Hill-related things, that konami.com/games link in its profile just leads to a 404 page...

This reeks of a fake. A bad fake, too.

[up] Yeah, while having a freshly-made official account may indicate something Silent Hill related may be abound soon, the lack of fanfare and Konami's continued ineptitude have me not holding my breath for anything exciting...

Hey look, something that isn't about that stupid rumor of a new game (which is totally happening, guys):

Bit of an old video, but I just watched it for the first time.

I had absolutely no idea Silent Hill 3 was originally intended to be more in-line with SH2 than SH1. While I still like the SH3 that we got, man I would love to see that original vision. It could have been incredible.

That Silent Hill was conceptualized by a team of passionate misfits which was slowly eroded by publisher demands and worthless fan expectations only makes the whole situation more upsetting. It's easy to say the post-Team Silent developers "just didn't get it", but... they really didn't, did they? They just looked at SH 1 and 2 and went "Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, ???, Profit!"

This is why the cancellation of Silent Hills was so frustrating. It wasn't just that it looked good, or that it had an all-star cast of creators, but it truly felt like the original games, like they finally found someone who did "get it"... and then they didn't just burn that bridge, they Metal Gear REX'd it.

And this is also why that rumor is so annoying to me. I would love a new Silent Hill game developed by the original Team Silent. They made some of the best horror experiences ever and I want another, but parading the same unverified crap every month isn't going to magically make it a reality.

...man, I really need to replay this series. It's been too long.

All that fake rumors makes me want to play those games,so I get HD collection on Xone retro,I know people hated those ports put thats the only legal way for me to play those games,I sad they not put the first one on the collection,so I have to watch playthoughs on youtube.

Playing SH 3 first and find that someone do The Last of Us 2 Twist before.

Eh, the contexts of the two are wildly different.

The twist in SH3 is less that Harry died and more that Harry was in it at all.

The Indian Burial Ground trope on Silent Hill is explicity state on some suplemental material or file ? or only is implied with the Aztec and Mayan names of the Cult's Gods on SH 3 and the statue of a woman killed by Christians on SH 2 ?

Some nondescript "ancestors" and "sacred lands" are mentioned in the Book of Lost Memories in Silent Hill 2, and I think Native Americans are explicitly mentioned in Silent Hill: Downpour.

I suspect we have a bit of a retcon,as the first game as due The cult making rituals with the white claudia plant what eventually made Alessa born with supernatural powers like the virus from Resident Evil.

Much probably late that was the inspiration for the mold and Avelline for Resident Evil 7.

So one franchise act as influence to another.

Alessa never got her powers from White Claudia, if that's what you meant. White Claudia was just used by The Order to make hallucinogenic drugs.

The Native Americans basically knew that there was something wrong with the area and decided to give it a fairly wide birth, the same way you'd give a toxic swamp. The European Americans built a prison camp and town over it.

But it should be noted that Silent Hill wasn't a Hellmouth until Alessa's torture and the summoning of the God.

There's a good argument that the place only reflects Dante's inferno because of their abuse.

Regarding the Silent Hill 4: The Room port on GOG.com:

For those who recall the game's original PC port, it looks like there were some significant tweaks.

So far:

  • The PC port's 15 FPS cutscenes were replaced with full FPS versions.
  • Post-processing effects the initial PC port snipped out, like the Forest World hand puzzle, have been put back in.
  • Widescreen support

Keep in mind, the game has only recently arrived to GOG.com, so there may be other quality of life fixes we don't know about. That said, it's already proven itself superior to the original wonky PC port from 2004.

But Konami is STILL infamous for going the bare minimum when it comes to video games, so don't hold your breath for a sudden redemption arc.

Bump.

If you were the extremely few that SOMEHOW managed to score a PS5 before the official launch date, you might have noticed that you could have played P.T. via backwards compatibility...but now you can't. sad

And according to Sony, it "was a publisher decision."

Thanks so much for that, Konami.
