Can't, because then the companies create unions (as was done in my aforementioned Hollywood example) where isntead of it being an umbrella for workers, its an umbrella for companies.

Well, problem is, I don't think the US can do the Europeans' model. Our industrial economy is gone because all the labor is too expensive, but if we kill what makes the labor expensive we're dooming millions to poverty.

Germany is a pretty good example of expensive labour and good profit margins with high quality of life... and a government doing it's job (either out of sheer luck or competence, but whatever).

The US still does quite a bit of industrial production, it's just that none of it is where the general public is the end user.
