What made me post this was this case reported in our local newspaper. The woman the article was about made her first kill in 1999. She was sentenced to prison for 8,5 years and got parole in 2003. Then she went on to kill another in 2008 and got 10 years of which she has to do only half. This is because accoding to the law as there was more than 3 years between her release and the second kill and so she was tried as a first time offender for her second kill.
This spring she was moved to an open prison (pure genius) where she got to work outside. She didn't come back from work on 21.7. and has been on the run since then. And the police aren't going to actively look for her because shes not dangerous. They came to this conclusion on the basis that she's been a model prisoner.
The desicion to let her do the rest of her time on parole, again, will be postponed by the time shes on the run.
Now I dare you to guess what my problem with the finnish legal system is...
