I think it fits. It was done in an emergency in the wilderness, so I don't think the head in a jar option would have been available.
Also, and this is something of an aside, I'm not sure if the mere fact that an alternative exists would be enough to disqualify it. Say there was a choice between a jar and Amy. If they choose the jar, then Fry "can't live without the jar". If they choose Amy, then Fry "can't live without Amy".
If you say that neither of those examples is valid on the basis that, in the event of Amy dying or the jar being destroyed, Fry could survive if he was transferred to an alternative (and I think that argument could be made, if not necessarily won), then the example list needs a serious prune. For what it's worth, this is on the example list currently.

I mostly like it. It could run into the problem of not being an actual example, though. I haven't seen that episode, but living heads-in-jars are a well established device in that show.
Still ... I'm in favor of it.
