Agreed.
According to the description, the dependee (the sound you just heard was grammar breaking) doesn't have to be a living thing. That should make this easier.

This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish.Agree with pull. Also, I'm surprised to learn that this trope is meant literally, as in "character X will literally die without character Y present". We should have an image that represents this, not just two lovers who could metaphorically not live without the other.
According to the caption, it is literally. But yeah, a new pic is needed.

Hahah that one works!
*snerk* Love it.
I swear I've seen that image used elsewhere.
Before posting that, I looked under as many "end of world" tropes as I could find. There are a few planets blowing up, but I couldn't find any that have somebody watching it happen, let alone this specific pic.
I went ahead and used the astronaut image. Since there hasn't been much consensus, please continue to debate. Until then, this one should suffice.
Also, I'm not sure about my caption. Please edit to taste.
Nobody seems to be objecting to the change. Could we get a timer a few more "yeas" so we can lock this down?
The new image looks sufficiently dramatic, but I can't figure out what it has to do with an "if one dies the other dies" trope. The old one may have been dependent on the caption but this one doesn't make sense even with it. It's a cool image, to be sure, but surely there's a trope it makes sense for.
I'm against it as well. It almost makes sense if you know what the trope is about, but I think someone who just drops in, sees the pic and reads the title would be very confused.
This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish.I still don't get what the Earth image is about.
Alt account of Angeldog 2437.The idea is that if the earth is no longer around, the astronaut is screwed. Which makes it a sort of example, but we could probably find a clearer one that's closer to the way the trope typically appears.
Reaction Image RepositoryThat image is already on But What About the Astronauts?, though.
Okay, since this thread still hasn't actually reached consensus and because the image is used elsewhere, I pulled the Earth image. I still it's pretty much perfect, though.
I am sorely tempted to post an image of someone confined in an iron-lung. Mostly for a dark laugh.
Please.
They're just holding hands. We need something that looks a bit more parasitic in nature or at least obvious from the get go.
