- mourns the Technocracy expansion that will never be*
For those of you who are curious of What Could Have Been, RPS has reported on some leaked screenshots and a supposed playtest manual. According to the writer, and based on the info she managed to glean from both the screenshots and the manual, it was pretty clear that the MMO wasn't really going anywhere.
I'm almost insulted by some of the design elements anyhow.
Ventrue as support/healers?
Brujah as "the guy who melee combats"
Toreadors apparently designed to essentially be rogues.
as a Torrie and Brujah fan I cant help but feel disgusted by how it seems like they were using the most banal and stereotypical applications of their disciplines to design them around.
"Press 'E' to seduce". Hahaha. I've played World Of Warcraft since it came out, I can't help but think the woman from that screenshot had bright glowing sparkles around her to let the players know you can eat her.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984No wonder the game was vamporware and then canceled.
CCP is run by assholes and idiots.
>One manager couldn't answer questions on gameplay or focus. I remember him standing over the shoulder of a programmer putting his finger to his lips and saying 'No - make it more... psssshhhh’
>“Not once could he answer any question about moment-to-moment gameplay or areas of focus,” says one source. “Instead, he preferred to deliver buzzword-laden rambles… It was not uncommon for him to communicate in onomatopoeia.
...
"One email sent on the eve of the company's 2010 team-building trip stated that all teams had to work through the weekend - and that this necessary overtime was the fault of the teams, that it was their failure to plan and scope their project accordingly. Never mind that management insisted on changing requirements and designs on a weekly basis, without pushing the schedule out to accommodate the changes.”

I'd say this surprised me but after shit like monoclegate its been apparent for years that CCP isnt an amazing game developer with a smash hit game like EVE. Its a company that got extremely lucky in devising EVE, got a lot of money, and quickly lost all ability to figure out any sort of longterm planning and therefore is constantly shooting themselves in the foot.
also, my favorite bit from one of the articles about this is a screenshoty where it shows a bed and the ability to rest in torpor to regain humanity and gain exp.
speaking as a hardcore longtime Wo D roleplayer....lolololololollhahahahahahahahahaaahahahahah

Yep, that sounds like madness.
...am I a terrible person for regardless finding "Nick Blood" working in the same corporation making a World of Darkness MMO to be endlessly amusing?
Bad news, guys. The World of Darkness MMO has been canceled after 8 years of development. The CEO was somewhat vague with his reasoning for such a decision, for he said that they tried hard to bring this vision of theirs to life and realized after so long that they have failed to do so. Relatedly, the team that was once hired to make this game has been partly re-assigned to games within the EVE Online universe and partly laid off with job offers in other parts of the company.
I gotta say, I'm a little surprised they chose to cancel this game after that long in development. I guess I shouldn't be, considering how many projects get canceled every year, but nonetheless this one seemed fairly interesting, and I hope the ones who worked on this project get back on their feet soon.
