Well, there's a three-part called Salamander. The first episode is based on the game that became Life Force on the NES, while episodes 2 and 3 are based on the first two Gradius games. I would actually recommend starting with the second episode because the first kind of spoils it.
It's pretty decent. Not the best anime OVA I've seen, but worth a view, and is a neat experience for fans of the games. The first episode especially does little to deny that it's based on a shmup (which automatically makes it better than most Hollywood adaptations of video games).
