Actually, it was the line before it. I thought it was funny, in a "That's a nice new system you got there. Be a shame if nobody bought it" kind of way.
I have a message from another time...Well, I do hear the 3DS will have Smash Bros, as well as Mario Kart, so... It's at least possible I might skip out on the Wii U for a 3DS, since I never had a DS, so I could also pick up the DS's library in addition to the Virtual Console Game Boy Games.

Wizard Needs Food BadlyThe 3DS Smash Bros will have some form of connectivity with the Wii U Smash Bros.
I have a message from another time...By decreasing the market for PS2 games versus PS3 games, so as to promote PS3 sales against its Daddy System. It was mostly an issue in the PS3's launch-era doldrums though, so I think Sony's just failed to write a PS2 emulator out of sheer egotistical laziness (much like killing OtherOS) nowadays.
So the Gamecube becomes a Virtual Console system, eh?
It's official, I'm too old to be a modern gamer. Which means that I get to be an elitist retro gamer.
x5 Sakurai's already said that he plans on trying something different with the 3DS Smash Bros. He hasn't said anything else, but the popular theory is that it will mainly single-player.

I put on my robe and tinfoil hat...I don't buy that. They went to the trouble of building a PS 2 into the early models, and quit doing that because they'd be making a huge loss per unit sold if they slashed the price without removing it.
Infinite Tree: an experimental storyWith the exception of the PS 1, Sony apparently has a history of making consoles with very complicated software architecture.
One reason Nintendo might be removing Gamecube compatability from the Wii U might be so that they don't need to put the controller ports into the Wii U. For downloadable, they'll just have to tweak the control systems so that they can be played with a classic controller. Although that would mean that Four Swords Adventures and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles won't be on the store.
Not Three Laws compliant.Won't the 3DS be compatible with the Wii U as is? They could still do those two games with the connectability.
Quest 64 threadIf they actually felt like putting in effort, they could just make the Game Boy screen appear on the Wii U controller screen.
Welcome to th:|But how would that help for multiplayer, though? We only have one Tablet per console max, so...
Quest 64 threadUnless they use the screen on the Wii U controller for that. Then again, they did say that it might not support more than one controller at once... =(
I'm not really surprised or angered at these news. It's not the kind of news that strike me as reason to boycott it.
That could work.

Fantastic Supreme Überkaiser Emperor Folt of The Infinity and Beyond" ... "The First"!Isn't that a misinterpretation of a quote though? They said they'd only focus on one per game but I don't think they ever said it was impossible for it to stream to multiple controllers.

I forgot the link, but they apparently confirmed it would only have Tablet per console... which is kind of lame. It might change in time, but earlier, that was what they were saying, though.
Quest 64 threadThat's what they said at the announcement. They backed up pretty quickly upon the response to that, IIRC.

Infinite Tree: an experimental storyHmmm. :/ Well, at least they could keep the stuff from Wind Waker intact. Although that reminds me that Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance had bonuses if you plugged in a Game Boy Advance with Fire Emblem or The Sacred Stones in it...I wonder if any other games had bonuses like that.
Welcome to th:|Which means we may atleast see two per console.
The sad part is? They wouldn't have that many complaints if they just had it use Gamecube Controller ports as well.
Likewise, I'm with Game Guru GG, there's no reason to not have it BC with Gamecube games anyway. Not saying it's super easy to do as is, but it's not that much to do overall.
That one'll be easy. Regular players can do both if they wanted to. Which screws with the multiplayer bit of the game, but it was barely a multiplayer feature to begin with.
Quest 64 threadThe controller has nothing to do with this, since they've already stated GCN emulation will use the normal controller (which has the same number of buttons and sticks as the GCN one,) and original GCN memory/controllers could easily be used through optional adapters.
With what controller slots? There's only one, maybe two at most so far. Pretty much, you've got the Wii Tablet or the Classic versions. Nothing else.
Quest 64 threadEven assuming it's all wireless (which I doubt,) the Wiimote has a plug on it for accessories like the nunchuk, and there are a number of SD-GCN flash copiers already. That said, I'm betting Nintendo will stick a few USB ports on the thing.
Ah, that's what you meant. However, it's more than likely that they'll eventually stop making Gamecube Controllers as is, making that pointless later on.
Most Wii games can use the Gamecube Controller and another combination, or just the Wii Remote combinations.(or just the Wii Remote, or Nunchuck, etc.) So it won't be an investment worth keeping.
Which is probably the reason they removed the GC controller slots. Wii Remotes and Classic Controllers cost more money. They make more profit. The only sucky part for it is the whole batteries thing. You know, they eat up money fast with some games. But that's the only weakness I'm seeing. I know there's rechargeable batteries, but my point still stands.

Quest 64 threadthis
....WhySo basically, the classic controllers are like Wavebirds.
I have a message from another time...
Actually, I've always kind of waited to buy a Nintendo console for Smash Bros or Mario Kart to get released since the N64.
If there were more games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros on the other systems, I might even consider dumping Nintendo altogether.
