Okay, they're taking fan-submissions for missions, artwork and other stuff. I'm already working on mashing out some job ideas. Much fun.

So, can you actually play it? As in, right now? Can I flip up my new MacBook, open an account and start raping and pillaging across the galaxy?

No.

But you can submit artwork, quest concepts and ideas, and proposals for locations and settings (and if they use your stuff, your character starts out with extra money and faction points). They're going to have a survey in the near future rolled out that people can fill out. I'm pretty sure the Reaver faction issue will be brought up.

I've already submitted outlines for two missions, thinking up of a third.

They rolled out a survey for gameplay mechanics, stats, instant travel versus time spent travelling, how death should be treated, factions and the BIG question, should Reavers be playable or not.

If you join up and make an alias (what will become a character once the game kicks in), you'll get some in-game currency to weigh down your purse.

They survey is pretty comprehensive, and each question gives you a comment box so you can expand on your choice or whatever. Took me almost two hours to finish, but I wrote a crap-ton of comments...

I'm still somewhat mystified that this hasn't generated much more in terms of commentary from other tropers.

Welp, time for another update.

They're recruiting for development positions - I was intruiged enough that I dropped them a line expressing my interest. Meaning, I have a job with them now. I'm still wondering how in the world that happened.

So, if any Browncoats here have some sort of talent or just some ideas, now is the time. There's a hell of a lot still to do.
