It's a bit of a slog to get to the parts that are actual quest and not people talking about it.

Yeah, I ended up skipping most of the voter chat and using the thread marks system to just skip to the updates. Sadly, the guy writing it has stuck it on hiatus. To go do a different quest til he feels like getting back to it.

OK, how many Naruto xovers could be improved by switching around the scenario? As in instead of having Naruto being the only character in another franchise, why not reverse it?

Or even combine the franchises?

Nearly all of them. The best thing about Naruto is the setting. I'll freely admit I almost alway write everyone out of character. It comes with making them smarter than compost.

Agreed. Naruto has a pretty cool setting and putting characters of any other setting would definitely affect things or even having Naruto get mixed up in other things.

The last crossover I read that stuck a character from another universe into the Naruto universe, not counting the reincarnation stories, or the giving team seven the powers and personalities of other characters thing, was one where they stuck Gohan, I think it was post cell games, into the story right at the start of the wave arc.

I kind of ended up dropping it before I got to far when Gohan had to go super saiyan to take down Haku and that the writer flat out stated that Orochimaru could take SS 2 Gohan... and now that I'm typing this up I think I bitched about this fanfic before a long time ago.

But yeah, there's plenty of potential there. ...And now I'm remembering another one where Dante from Devil May Cry showed up, but that was only to do the rescue Naruto from mob and train him bullshit thing. So, less Yay! Dante and more Naruto was horribly abused with a heaping helping of Naruto wank.

I kind of want to read a fic where Dante curbstomps the Naruto universe, but given the ridiculous power escalation in the War arc, I don't think that's feasible anymore. -sigh-

There's also a guy who is seriously convinced Naruto could take Goku at full power on a fistfight just with Sage Mode.

And this is why I left the fanbase.

You'd be surprised how many claim that Naruto is a Planet Buster. (Hint: No one in the Naruto universe is.)

The Bijuu can wreck up the country side quite well with their Bijuu Dama attacks, but that's about it.

I don't know about that. I think he'd render the planet unlivable long before he got anywhere close to the point that it could be considered busted.

That was the joke.

If the Naruto world is the same as Earth, then it's a giant frikkin' ball of Iron. Sure, they can blow up mountains. They can create huge craters.

But in the grand scale of 'Earth-Shattering Kaboom', that's nothing.

In fairness Toneri could destroy the moon. So those of similar power level could also theoretically.

The Naruto moon is also hollow though, isn't it?

Sure its hollow at the centre. But its also big.

And also I guess a rampaging biju could level an country.

Going from moonbuster to Planet Buster isn't a small change. Let's use Terra and Luna for the example, shall we?

Earth's diameter is just slightly under four times as much as the moon's.

And that's not even compared the mass difference. 5.97219 × 10^24 kilograms for Earth VS 7.34767309 × 10^22 kilograms for the moon.

Suffice to say... Even if Toneri could blow up the moon, that doesn't mean he can go two for two and blow up the planet too.

Plus, I wouldn't take a movie at face value any more than you take filler.

Yes, well, I could grab a bunch of TNT and level Molossia with ease.

Or I could do it with a steamroller over an afternoon.

We know what the Bijuu's destructive power caps out at, and it's at Mountain Busting. We literally never see them pass that threshold, and no, don't bring up the whole "causing Hurricanes and Tsunamis with a sweep of their tails", because they hit Madara full force all at the same time, and it did not cause a natural disaster.

I never meant that anyone could destroy a planet, though seeing where the power levels are going who knows, but that Toneri, and possibly Naruto and Sasuke maybe could also, destroy a planetoid.

Also worht noting that Ninetails, who wasn't at full power, was able to break out of a planetoids creation. So...yeah prety powerful.

That's definitely the black sheep of the setting, yes.

Really... just... pretty much nuke what Part 2's later stages did to the setting entirely and focus on Part 1 and Early Part 2 world building.

Nuke all the fated family bullshit, and you get a pretty great setting that can tell moody, dark and gritty stories just as well as it can tell bright, colorful and cheerful stories. I would go as far as keeping Madara and Hashirama as majorly legendary figures, but would reduce their power drastically.

I'll be entirely honest and say that while I do try to maintain the characters as recognizable, I'm not really concerned with keeping as close as possible to their true characterization. I'm totally okay with them being out of character if them being out of character makes it so they're closer to what they're actually supposed to be rather than what they actually are.

The characters' personality traits are salvageable, so you can get characters that resemble the originals in everything... except their intelligence level.

How far into part 2 is "early part 2"?

Pretty much before the Fated Family Bullshit took over the manga.

I'd say, you can even go as far as keeping stuff up to Pain/Nagato, with Rinnegan included. However, once the Uchiha clan became the most important thing in the manga, the setting that had been so far actually been pretty cool was raped to make way for an entire universe built around the sole purpose of wanking the Uchiha.

I'd even go so far as to keep the Mangekyo... but not the one without drawbacks. The Eternal version is just... well, it's just a colossal and completely free powerup.

Same with the more advanced forms of the Jinchuuriki cloak. Let's give Naruto a reason not to use the Kyuubi, and the drawbacks it had, namely shortening his lifespan and causing him to lose his mind, are good enough reasons not to use it. I'd also throw in being in incredible pain when he is in control, but that's just me.

Basically... I'm part of the crowd that thinks that the manga should have ended at Pain, but for mostly different reasons. Not because I think it's a good ending point, though it is, but rather because I think that what followed was just shit.

You could also play up how dangerous it is using the nine tails power around anyone who you don't want to viciously slaughter.

All of that's kind of my plan anyway, imply it's expected for a jinchuriki to teamkill at least once, all the horrible burning pain, the going insane, all your teeth falling out, your skeleton ripping itself out of your body. All the good stuff.

Danzo: "All the Jinchuuriki are expected to teamkill at least once. That's why we stuck him with two teammates we didn't mind losing."

Someone Else: "... But he's got the last Uchiha and Hatake Kakashi on his team!"

Danzo: "His team consists of a completely useless kunoichi, a traitor in all but name and the laziest and therefore most useless jounin on our roster. We're hoping he goes berserk and kills them all."
