Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I peeked in the Trump AMA out of morbid curiosity. I wasn't expecting much, but I was still disappointed. He only answered about a dozen questions, and that includes "questions" like "do you ever get tired of winning?". I certainly wasn't expecting any major policy proposals or anything (he hasn't given those anywhere, I certainly don't think that Reddit would be the exception), but really? 12 questions? That's half-assed even for a quick AMA.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. It wasn't a proper AMA, it was the Trump fan subreddit and only open to long term, known members, as in not to the public. Even amongst them the questions were pre selected before being answered.
Trump needed a safe space you see.

"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranWell, yeah, I expected that too. To be fair, I'd expect that of any other candidate, if they were doing that sort of thing — otherwise the trolls would be out of control, no matter which candidate you're talking about. But that's why it's so lame that he still barely touched it.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I've heard that Obama did an open AMA, I've seen other politicians do similar.
Anyway it's time for Kaine.
Oh shall we call it Tim Time?

"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranTime for the Anti Mike Pence.
He's still doing the introduced and he's already hit Trump on wanting to abandon NATO.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI'm partial to calling him real life Jed Bartlet.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Kaine kind of Reminds of the guy that recruited Wade in Deadpool.
New Survey coming this weekend!I recall seeing that. There's probably a transcript floating around for anyone who's curious.
And he's throwing in some Spanish, this should drive the Republicans nuts.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI'm really liking Kaine. He's getting in some good points. I loved the Spanish bit.
I read up on Kaine earlier today. I actually agree with him on a lot of his political views, which is very nice. I think he'll be a great VPOTUS.

"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurOh wow he's pushing the cross party appeal, using his father in law (a former Republican govoner who is still a Republican but is voting for "an awful lot of democrats") as a key example.
He's called for those who don't recognise the party of Lincon to come to the Dems.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranMore of a Christian than Trump or Pence are at any rate.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. He's going strait into it, he's arguing for people to trust Hillary, not dodging, no shifting, he's telling people to trust her. This is after pulling of a great unifying speech about what we all belive.
Also he's got a bit of a comedian about him Tim Kaine.
And there's a hit about Trump's tax returns. He's going strait for it.
His Trump impression could use a bit of work though, still he's got time.

"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranKaine is calling Trump a liar on prime time TV. This is awesome.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Kaine was good. The "boring" accusation doesn't really work. He did great. He appealed to the Sanders fans fairly successfully, he smacked down Trump relentlessly, he painted Clinton in such glowing terms he made Chelsea cry, and he did it all with a great big smile on his face.
Tim Kaine: "Does this side believe him? Are you guys okay? I'm not too loud right? You hydrated? Make sure you eat something."
New Survey coming this weekend! It's Obama time!

OMG.
So fucking good.
New Survey coming this weekend!Someone I knew from school on Twitter is running with amusingly corny #Dad In Chief memes. (re: Kaine)

Some ape in the audience just tried to interrupt Obama with something about the TPP. Nobody cared.
Obama hasn't been this good in years.
If this doesn't give Clinton a bump, we have objective proof that the universe is unjust.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Something I've noticed about comparing the DNC and the RNC (and I'm admittedly stealing this from a political commentator; can't remember who) is that there's been a flip of roles between the Republican and Democratic parties in terms of rhetoric. In the past it's typically been the Republicans saying how great America is, and how perfect of a place it is that needs no change, while now they're saying how they need to "make America great again." However, now they're the ones saying how awful and disastrous the nation is, while I've heard far more pride about our country from the Democrats than I can ever remember. Not to say Democrats aren't normally proud of our nation, it just seems like a flipped role for them to be the more outspokenly patriotic party while the Republicans are all doom and gloom.
Hope that makes sense. I'm really quite happy to hear so much pride for our nation during the DNC.

"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -Bur
By full time I meant until November. He really sounds like he wants to tear down Trump. Have him run some ads, see if he can't bring over some swing voters.
