Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I've decided to not worry too much about Trump's poll numbers. Wait for the first round of primary voting before coming to any serious conclusions.
I'm just thoroughly amused by the idea that Trump is viewed as the candidate for "quiet people".
The term "cuckold" in that context is referring to white men whose wives cheat on them with black men. It's just about as racist as yelling the 'N' word at an NAACP convention, and it should prove, once and for all, that racism is the fundamental motivation of the right.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"(reads the article on Trump visiting Iowa)
(in Elaine voice) What is wrong with all you people?! Have you all gone mad?!

Unless your black. Then its totally ok.
Obviously racisim is the basis of everything, didn't you know that?
On another note,
I honestly don't like any of the candidates, none of them are right for the job.

Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair. You may be jesting, but in the case of the Tea Party branch of the U.S. Republican party and its Fox News propaganda wing, it's pure distilled truth.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"What. Cuckold just means a husband with an unfaithful wife. Not a husband with an unfaifthul wife to a black man.
Does the Republican Party not respect even the English Language?

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesThis might be one of those things where the etymology is racist, but the modern usage of the world is race neutral.
I mean, in some communities, you might just use the term netorare ...Or So I've Heard
IIRC, it comes from the chans. The origin might even be /pol/.
The etymology of the word "cuckold" itself is race-neutralnote , but a general fear of black male sexuality in racist discourse and the various racist tropes of interracial pornography make its racial undertone obvious in this case. White supremacists - and 14 year olds pretending to be white supremacists on /pol/ - have been using it for ages, and now it seems to have seeped into the mainstream right. Hopefully the saner ones can push it out; Even Erick Erickson condemned this particular instance, IIRC.

Schild und Schwert der ParteiAlso, I was right, sadly. Keep in mind I'm not saying ALL of Trump's supporters are racists, but based on that article, certainly some of them are.
The "kick out the Muslims" paragraph was especially SMH-worthy.

Please, nobody speaks or respects the English language. I'm sure My Fair Lady has a song that covers it fairly well.
Oh, why can't the English learn to set a good example to people whose English is painful to your ears?
The Scotch and the Irish leave you close to tears. There even are places where English completely disappears.
In America, they haven't used it for years!

Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair.I USE ANTLERS IN ALL OF MY DECORAAAAAAATING
Goddammit, England. I am holding you responsible for this "NOT TEACHING YOUR CHILD THE APPROPRIATE SPEAKING" shit
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesMmm, the Klan wannabes in my community have been passing around a video clip of Trump being interviewed by a christian TV network. I think he's channeling a certain German politician a bit too well with his talk about seeking a "more permanent solution" to "The Muslim Problem."
I'll see about digging up the clip elsewhere, since I'd rather not link to white dominionist rubbish.
He's already advocating for mass round up and deportation of Mexicans in the United States, don't see why he'd stop there.
Oh really when?Trump you beautiful disaster, you. Reading him is like the most twisted form of Schadenfraude. I feel pity and giddy at the same time, both wondering what stupid thing he will say next, and also cringing.
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesI refuse to believe that even Trump would be stupid or malicious enough to say something like that, at least without proof.
I Bring Doom, and a bit of gloom, but mostly gloom.Free Pork Sandwiches on Ramadan? Or maybe a free suicide vest with every purchase?
Its not a hate cross, its a welcome cross

Look upon my privilege ye mighty and despair.Eh, the far right that Trump embodies is totally on board with such sentiments but I do have to admit I don't think he'd be stupid enough to say them out loud.
It's one thing for the cross burning backwoods hicks to advocate for a "solution to the Muslim problem" but for a politician with his level of open support?
That's just bad. Like we've long passed the point of no return bad.

Oh really when?Trump is going to do the Democrats one hell of a favor by ensuring no minorities and other groups ever vote for the republicans.
Inter arma enim silent legesIf he gets nominated at least. Right now most moderate people can just write him off as a crazy lunatic that's an expert at getting attention. If he actually becomes the Republican candidate for president it will signal that they're okay with this man representing them.

Honestly, Trump is basically giving the Koch brothers a gigantic middle finger by self-funding his election campaign. When the Kochs had the Big Five suckle at their money teat, he made some rude comments about it.
Like I keep saying, Citizens United was the worst thing to happy to politically active billionaires you can imagine; it just means that the effective purchasing power of their money was reduced by that much.
Eventually the big GOP money guys and the establishment are going to have to rally around someone who isn't Trump. If he starts taking states, even if it's only because the non-lunatic vote is split 10 ways, they'll probably jump around Walker or Bush and get everyone else is stop dropping out. Cause the party is likely to suffer immensely in other races in November if Trump is their standard bearer.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. The candidates in the second-tier debate will be former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina , South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, former New York Gov. George Pataki, and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore.

The artist formally known as Deviant BraeburnHuh, guess the moderish (moderate-ish) didn't manage to keep Trump out after all. Bring on the popcorn!
It is, so I think the writer of that article is conflating the race issue (alongside the race fetish) with the idea of cuckolding.
"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
