[up]Breather chapter?

either way, Eret and Thedy are going to be the only same-especies couple in the story?

They're not the only one, but the nature of this story's focus does mean that the *focus* couples are more typically one Barashin and one Elcenian, which means more often than not they aren't the same species. Keo's parents are the same species; so are Tekaal's parents, and all his married cousins with their spouses, and his grandparents and aunts and uncles; Kolaan will eventually get an elf girlfriend; Ngen eventually gets a halfling girlfriend; Lutan's girlfriend is a human like her (but their boyfriend is a quarter elf); Talyn's parents are both halfbloods; Leekath's dads are both vampires - etc. etc. Interspecies couplings are less common in the world (except among dragons) than the focus of the story would have you believe.

[up]Oh, nice.

Can Vampires breed with another race? Or Vampires Thudias could be possible?

I wonder if it wouldn't be... better if Eret, Thedy and the children just moved to Barashi, or maybe another Shren, less prejudice and they wouldn't need to bring Masters that are willing to come to another world xP

EDIT: checked the site, and it mentions the possibility of at least dragon/vampire breeding.

Now I want to see a Vampire Thudia, just because it would have three forms.

Can dragons breed with wolfriders? I suppose that only Paranuias would be viable.

1. Vampires can half half-vampires. Vampire thudias are by far the most common crossbreed - others are both culturally discouraged by vampire religion/custom, and much more biologically challenging. Leekath has a half-human cousin who was born after six miscarriages by her (human) mom - it's even harder if the vampire is the mom, because vampires have to shapeshift and half-vampires can't do that and it's uncommon for one to be able to tolerate it in the womb. (Whereas dragons flawlessly extend this protection to thudia children when changing to arbitrary forms.)

2. <spoiler>

3. No vampire thudias are significant characters in planned portions of the series, although there will be a character who has several as children.

4. Dragons can in principle breed with wolfriders. In practice, even parunias would be tough: female wolfrider pairs have some safeguards in place to arrange to get pregnant at the same time, so they don't have doomed singlet children. Dragons can conceive at will but can't stop the wolfrider's system from rejecting the embryo as unpartnered and therefore not worth spending resources to incubate. Here are the ways you could get a viable dragon/wolfrider crossbreed:

  • Two male dragons (or one) knock up both members of a female wolfrider pair at about the same time. They both have thudias or both have parunias. (If only one is a thudia, it will die and the parunia will live.)

  • A male wolf or rider knocks up a female dragon. They have a parunia. (If it's a thudia, it will die.)

  • A male wolfrider pair each knock up one of a cooperating pair of female dragons. They both have thudias or both have parunias. (If only one is a thudia, it will die and the parunia will live.)

[up]Why does it have to be a two-males-dragons+two-female-riders or two-female-dragons+two-male-riders configuration??

...It doesn't, and I didn't say it did. (In particular, multiple riders and no wolves would be pointless.)

Also, ew.

[up]Because the dragon would need to have sex with a wolf?

The wolf is sapient. The dragon could turn wolf-shaped first. It's not intrinsically more ew-worthy than a dragon having sex with an elf.

For a while I wasn't sure if the wolves were sapient either, though when Rhysel told the wolfrider pair that they could both learn kamai, that was a pretty good clue. Maybe it was stated in a previous chapter but I don't remember. I do remember mention of wolf thoughts, but I wasn't sure how to take that.

Supposing one of the Barashin gods made an appearance (by whatever meanse) to a wolfrider pair. Would they have the same problem that Keo and Kanaat had?

Will any of the "books" feature the Barashin Gods or Barashin in general?

[up][up]Yes, they would.

[up]Aziel pops up a couple more times. Arimal, the goddess of water, is a significant character in "Stone and Water", and other deities are minor background characters in a couple scenes thereof.

Interesting slice of life, I wonder how much money Rhysel could be making right now if she cared to take advantage of the situation.

Are Golens something possible through Wizardry?

More importantly, will Rhysel give a interview to Esten?

Wizards could make golem-like things but it would be a tedious process and they'd have to invent new spells to do it.

[up]As a point of curiosity, are you planning to write it if Alicorn says yes, or if she says no?

[up]Well, if she writes it for her own canon story... is sort of pointless to write my own. My main problem with doing such thing myself is that I doubt that I would be able to do a reliable interview, specially without consulting Elcenia site for informations about Barashi (which would give me spoilers)

Completely off-topic, but I re-read that chapter, and Ahin gets more charming each time. ("I've brought a spectacular man and an adorable child! Come marvel at my luck!") Is one of the stories/novels about him?

Rhysel will be described in the Esmaarlan press.

Sorry, Ahin doesn't have his own story lined up. He plays a part in some plot points, but overall he has his life too together to be that interesting as a protagonist. So if Ahin in particular's what interests you, sorry.

"Red" and "Images" both have lesbian protagonists and "Marche" has a gay male couple as the romantic leads, if that is interesting. (There would be more of them, but homosexuality is much rarer on Barashi than on Elcenia, and the way my original coauthor and I wrote this, the romances that we focused on are almost all between a Barashin and an Elcenian - otherwise we wouldn't have been bouncing off each other the way we were trying to optimize for, or we'd have to mess with our division of characters. So there are plenty of gay backgrounders in Elcenia and only a handful in Barashi - literally: *three* - and that's about the size of it.)

And: Chapter 19: Brokenness

The key event in this chapter will be covered onscreen in more detail in the second book, "Blood".

About the LGBT: nice, can't wait to read it =]

About Brokeness: I shall remove my tear ducts so we can't feed on my tears (well, it was a good thing after the sugar-coated chapters of late, I like the deveolpments), also I feel that the Shrens are a little... ungrateful, don't you guys think so??

Well, I imagine that being given a miracle and then realizing that it's not as much of a miracle as you thought is bitterly disappointing. Besides, there's something wrong with their baby, and that's hard for parents.
