Wow that is bad.
Motion to pull.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.I third the motion.
The things an image would need to demonstrate is 'Item, powerup or spell (not necessarily shoes)', 'In a videogame' and 'increases movement speed'. The best I can find is this◊.

This implies, quite correctly, that my mind is dark and damp and full of tiny translucent fish.Agreed.
Let's see... in Dynasty Warriors speed shoes drop all the time a picture of them and a second pic of when you pick it up it says "Speed x2 - 30 seconds" over the characters head.
Away from my comp ATM but there are a lot of Dynasty warriors 7 highrez let's plays on You Tube to get a shot.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Is this an "upgrade" trope? If so, that might work.
Fight smart, not fair.A vast improvement.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Yes, this is an upgrade and powerup trope.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThat's far too dark and unreadable.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I can read the original version just fine. The brightened version kills a lot of the fine detail on the boot symbol.
On my phone it was really hard to see on my computer its better but not perfect... oh well.
I give up on my hunt for pics of speed boots Dynasty Warriors trying to find a moment thats not super busy on Let's Plays for a screen of the boots or the "Speed boost x2 for 30 seconds" message was a pain in the ass.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I think one of the improvements over the original is the text. It really hammers the "upgrade" status home, as the Sonic one looks like computer screen with shoes on it.
Fight smart, not fair. Why not a picture of someone wearing shoes, the shoes look like something that helps speed, and the character clearly running fast?
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. This trope isn't about literal shoes... its about Speed Boost Powerup.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!1. Most are still called shoes.
2. It would still show the speed boosting.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I like the suggestion pretty well.
First key to interpreting a work: Things mean things.I'll suggest this◊ from The Legend Of Zelda.
Belief or disbelief rests with you.I find the Zelda image clearer and more legible than the God Of War one.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight! The Zelda one is good too.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAdd a second frame of him dashing with those, and it's perfect.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Agreed with that.
Clock is set. Anyone gonna try to get that running pic for the Zelda example?
I like the Zelda pic on its own. (And I prefer it to the other suggestions in the thread so far.)
If we could get one that's not shoes, I'd give it preference to help communicate that the trope is not literally about shoes. But in the absence of such a suggestion, I'm willing to settle for a literal example, and I'm not interested in searching around for a better one myself.
Rhymes with "Protracted."
The existing image◊ just doesn't work. People who aren't familiar with Sonic The Hedgehog may not even be able to tell what it's supposed to be.
