I don't mind saluting. However, my problem is for those who sing. When I sing the national anthem, I tend to get some of the lyrics messed up in order to catch up. This has got me concerned.
An old RT interview of Duterte, who slams the West and other like-minded nations for having doubletalk.
Duterte threatens to bomb indigenous schools
“Get out of there, I’m telling the Lumads now. I’ll have those bombed, including your structures,” the president said. “I will use the armed forces, the Philippine air force. I’ll really have those bombed … because you are operating illegally and you are teaching the children to rebel against government.”

Disgusted, but not surprisedGraduating from police death squads to openly declaring an intent to commit state terrorism.
Bastard movee quick.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. That most likely came after Duterte's convoy was attacked by the NPA in the wake of peace talks breaking down and martial law in Mindanao for a year.
The NPA does recruit from lumad communities from time to time and use their frustrations on not getting enough gov't support as a motivation.
Duterte's State of the Nation address.
Highlights include making peace with China to ease West Philippine Sea tensions, equal relations with all nations as part of his foreign policy, getting the US military to return the looted Balangiga bells (which the American embassy has agreed to work on, except the descendants of the veterans in the Phil-Am war are against it IIRC) and getting the Bangsamoros autonomy to reduce an ISIL foothold.
He also mentioned in the SONA that he'll save up more money for the AFP in the DND budget.

Also this in the wake that he may have had recruited trolls.

A mayor accused of being a drug pusher killed in a police raid, along with his wife and 13 others. The mayor's daughter who was vice mayor was arrested.
From what I heard, Internal Affairs Service is checking it out and the family is up in arms about this since the mayor himself did anti-drug campaigns.

Looks like it's the unsure pile for the bells.
The country recently observed International Human Rights Days and Ramon Tulfo in the Inquirer hounds human rights groups for barking up the wrong tree aside from engaging in Whataboutism.

Crosspost from the East Asian politics thread. A civil organization was responsible for this.
Looks like the Filipino telco industry will have another provider from China, although lawmakers and intelligence officials are concerned from reports that the MSS will use them to spy electronically.
The DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) head insist that those fears are just made up.

Anyone following about the ICC being involved to investigate Duterte for potential human rights violation as the lawyer who brought it up in serious trouble since he's scared of being whacked in broad daylight.
That guy is seriously messed up.

Even worse, it's part of a pattern of behavior:
“Was I mad because of the rape? Yes, that’s one. But, she was so beautiful, the mayor should have been first. What a waste,” he said. In May last year, he also told soldiers in Mindanao – apparently as a joke – that while martial law was imposed, he would protect them from prosecution if they raped three women.
Last week it was announced that the International Criminal Court were looking into complaints that Duterte had committed crimes against humanity in his brutal and bloody war against drugs, which has seen a deat toll of over 4000. But the President said he did not mind being indicted and imprisoned by the International Criminal Court as long as it allows conjugal visits by more than one woman.
His spokesperson Harry Roque subsequently dismissed the allegations that Duterte was sexist and misogynist.
“You know, sometimes, these feminists are really a bit OA (overacting),” said Roque. “I mean, that’s funny. Come on. Just laugh.”

Disgusted, but not surprisedAn analysis report from America mentioned Duterte as a potential threat to SEA.
The Palace, via spokesman Harry Roque, mentioned that Washington is trying hard to lose allies.
That's so desperate and sad.
Why aren't you laughing?"
Batman: "Because I've heard it before... and it wasn't funny the first time."

Looks like Duterte doesn't want a particular UN rappoteur to come to Manila.
Well it looks like it's the first nation in the Asia-Pacific region that ratified the ICC to submit plans to leave soon.

I'm all for singing the national anthem when it's needed, but with enthusiasm...
