I'm not particularly concerned about the use of force when apprehending a dude.
What I am concerned about is cops who beat/taze/shoot already subdued people.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.Those cases, the problem's not the taser, it's in the officer's attitude. Take away their taser, and most likely they'll find some other tool to be irresponsible with. Even if it means their fist.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...^
This. None of that is a fault of the equipment.
Of course, if your Taser misfires because it got too wet, then it IS Taser's fault.
Some of their marketing and informational products are also questionable. I don't entirely blame the police for being mislead by corporations, not like it doesn't happen with every vendor.

The thing with cops though is that we spend obscene amounts of money on our own gear, while a department may buy standardized equipment through a vendor, most cops have a personal preference. I buy all my vests from voodoo tactical, and all my cuffs from Smith & Wesson, for instance.
I've not seen a catalog yet that I'd consider honest.
Tasers are great if they're used as they're supposed to be. It's when you repetitively taser someone who is already cuffed because they can't get up that's the issue. I saw that happen once. There were about five cops to one guy and they tasered him because he wasn't walking fast enough. Hands cuffed behind his back and they kept tasering him because he wouldn't and couldn't get up and walk.
Just because most cops don't abuse them doesn't mean that they aren't abused. There need to be more checks and balances.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick
