Does anyone know if Greg Farshtey is involved with the reboot?
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterHe will not be in charge of the story like he was pre reboot, he will however be an advisor though.
To take things back a bit, I've got a Bionicle lot off eBay recently for £20 (+ £4 shipping), and by the looks of it, I have most, if not all the pieces to:
Nidhikki Krekka Dume & Nivawk Roodaka Rorzakh Keerakh Morak
Plus other spares and parts. However, the Turaga Vakama could very likely be a knock off that has the same incorrect Mask and eye stalk. Wish me luck that's the only fake one!
I'm already happy that Makuta is still in, even though his role is a bit different now as he is just jealous and probably not pure evil. Even if he was, he is asleep this time too so I guess that means no Rahkshi. (I know the Rahi and Bohrok came before them, but since Makuta looks like a Matoran now I doubt the Rahkshi are still canon.)
Stil hoping for Vezon to somehow still exist.
In the year 202X, all is devastation... Soon, any last shred of hope had by the saintliest optimist shall die and decay.Vezon probably still exists, he merged with the Mask of Dimensional Gates. Meaning he can traverse the multiverse, granted he can't really control where he goes or when the mask activates.
Why is past story suddenly inexplicably non-canon, especially since this is a goddamn hard REBOOT that doesn't even continue the past story?
Because the fans think it is and don't care what the Lego execs say.
but HOW?Eh, it's a different continuity, just like Transformers does every few years. We just don't have any official terminology to differentiate other then "Gen 1 and Gen 2" or going by year of release. Doesn't affect the previous continuity in any way.
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231If Vezon still exists in the new story, and he isn't a watered down version of his old self like what happens to many villains upon a reboot, I will love Lego forever. I might even do a little dance. ...Might.

In the year 202X, all is devastation... Soon, any last shred of hope had by the saintliest optimist shall die and decay.Just remembered that this had finally come back—Generation II of Bionicle is underway, conveyed via a series of online shorts.
And well, I'm underwhelmed with the released videos. It's definitely nice seeing it back in action and all, but it's so simplified compared to Bionicle 2001, I'm not at all enthused. I guess they're really reaffirming that Bionicle is a children's line, as a reaction to the leviathan it had become by 2010.
Still, the core of 2001's mystique is still there, even if grossly over-simplified. Hopefully they'll give it a little time to breathe and develop, rather than super compressing the original concept for kids.
Hey, give it time. 2001 had comics and online games and all different sorts of sets and they were planning a movie and just in general there was a lot more material to go off of. For G2, all they've given us so far is the equivalent of a couple cutscenes from the MNOLG, so naturally it's gonna be a bit compressed.
...G2 could really use its own MNOLG, y'know. In the olden days, that one game and its follow-ups pretty much defined the Bionicle experience. Exploring the villages and their people, getting to know them in person and helping the Toa save the island- and that's without even taking the writing and artstyle and music into account. There's a reason why everyone loves it.
but HOW?Yeah, I can't help feeling that Lego is playing too safe with the online content, and the story in general this time around. So much of what they did in 2001 was absolutely groundbreaking at the time, and a huge risk given Lego's financial situation, and it paid off by creating a very immersive story that you felt a part of.
So it seems odd that they're now rolling in money, and don't want to put that effort in again. Even the story-light Hero Factory had much more going on in its introductory year.
The story has suffered a lot as a result. The skull spiders haven't actually done anything except shuffle menacingly towards people, and then promptly get killed by the heroes. The bad guys haven't been shown to do anything evil, and yet it's okay for the heroes to shoot them. Come on, that's really bad storytelling.
I can understand that they don't want as much of a convoluted plot as the old Bionicle, but a return to the mysteries, puzzles and interactivity would be a plus.
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231At least when the half year sets kick in, some stuff will start to get interesting. If the masks they have are any indication, it will be a return to the infection of years past...
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenSo... Does anybody else have the six original Toa? From the early two-thousands?
H.B. WardStanding proudly on my shelf at home. It's crazy to think they're almost fourteen years old now O_O.
Long scrapped for parts (a few of which are now missing, for that matter), but I got all six. Plus a couple duplicates for whatever reason! :D
but HOW?Wow... Lego's really gone all-out on the viral marketing this year!
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231Those new Toa look great but I just don't have anymore room for more sets.
You can't get it wrong if it's the truth!Make room. Bionicle is life. Bionicle is love.
but HOW?Not really. The new storyline sucks and is so cheesy it isn't even funny.
You can't get it wrong if it's the truth!I'd be more inclined to call it crap story telling than a crap storyline. It's not actually all that different story-wise to the 2001 plot, but it's really lacking in the immersive, innovative media content like MNOG that made the original Bionicle special. Having us first encounter the Toa from a Matoran's point of view was an inspired choice. There was an aura of mystery, and plenty of quiet character moments between bursts of action. You could spend hours and hours on Bionicle.com, and there'd still be new things to find out.
The current webisodes leave a lot to be desired in terms of building the characters and revealing the setting. There's a few run-of-the-mill attempts at humour, but it lacks the spark to make you really care about the heroes, or the atmosphere for the danger to be taken seriously. There is a chance of redemption in the form of the upcoming TV show, though, so I guess we just have to wait and see.
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231Wait, they're finally making a tv show?!
Well, if the story was kept at the same level of complexity it had when it ended, kids couldn't get into it.
I saw something on Tumblr that said that, it is not childish to fear the dark, when very real creatures like Makuta are out in the dark.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the Great
