Anyone excited over it?

I am. While I liked the gameplay of Dawn of War 2 in the singleplayer, it just didn't translate well to multiplayer. Well, except for Last Stand, at least. I'm hoping that they actually incorporate Total War elements into it to make it more like the Tabletop game.

They said they're combining DoW1 and DoW2, which may allay your fears.

A combination of 2's graphics and cover taking and some other features, combined with 1's base building, with Dark Crusade's campaign would be absolutely divine.

[up]Agreed, except for the base building.

Also Necrons, yes or yes?

Source?

There were some rumours that Relic would start working on Do W III right after Dow: Retribution, but they were later confirmed to be false by Relic themselves.

Dow III is very relevant to my interest so I am curious about any news about it that may have flown under my radar (which is not that hard thing to do)

I miss base building. I dont why people would want that gone.

Also remove the retreat feature, that made almost every battle some boring hit and run scenario.

Also proper squad numbers please. The Codex Astrates says that a tactical marine squad is, I believe, 5 or 10 Marines!

Personally, base building is the most boring part of an RTS. Plus since DOWII was focused on capturing static objectives, it made your base kind of a non-issue.

[up]10-20 depending on how many points you wanted to spend. Methinks the squad size thing was more of a memory/engine limitation than anything.

Well the problem of capturing all the static objectives made the game feel like one huge game of grab ass. Run in, grab objective, run away, watch enemy do it, hit and run, run, etc.

No real long battles ever took place.

But maybe I just appreciated all the different building designs.

Ah, right, 10 or 20, my bad.

I'd rather have a linear campaign as the primary mode. Obviously you'd still focus on the Blood Ravens.

Hopefully they keep moving towards more balanced gameplay; Do W 2 was alright (especially compared to the lopsided mechanics of the original) but still had a few problems.

And they shouldn't be too concerned with sticking close to the tabletop; worry about making the game good. All the "Closer to Codex" mods I've tried have been absolute messes and I enjoy the tabletop gameplay. It just doesn't translate well.

Maybe you'll actually be able to play as the Swarmlord instead of having it as a Unlockable Super Weapon you have to pay quite a bit of resources for.

@Thorn: I didn't mind that to be honest, it set Do W apart from the standard Starcraft-style "my bigass army vs. your bigass army. Let's who can kill each other's doods first."

Though what would be really awesome would be a gameplay mode that would replicate the average table top game. You and your opponent would each get a set amount of resources, and at the the start of the match you get to pick all the units you're going to use. Then they're all deployed at once (though certain units can be kept in reserve for Deep Striking) and you proceed to have at it.

I want more commander trash talk.

Damn that was the best part of Dark Crusade. I miss old Eliphas.

[up] Well 40k is kind of about "Our big ass army vs yours"...

Also that idea sounds nice in concept, but, surprise surprise, like the table top game, everyone would just use prebuilt ideas. It would be a balancing nightmare.

I still want to see Gorgutz, Eliphas, Avitus, Cryus, Angelos and friends all make a comeback.

[up]Depends on the point cap and the army your using really.

So what armies do you think we will be seeing? Marines are a given, hopefully Guard and Chaos don't get neglected. Probably see Orks and definitely Eldar (Relic has a hard on for them). Necrons were implied in Retribution.

correction: Relic has a hard on of making the Eldar always ignored and end up being useless.

Storywise I mean.

Not ONCE has the Eldar done anything helpful to the story. They always get ignored, or killed, or cock it up in some way.

Not that their treatment on the tabletop fluff has been any different. They are there to uphold the status quo and fail.

Well just saying it would be nice for one day maybe one Space Marine to go "Yaknow, maybe the emperor knows how old psyker is right, maybe we shouldn't smash open the demonic artifact." or maybe for the Eldar to just go "Lets stop being so cryptic for once and just yell "DONT KILL US WE ARE PREVENTING THE EXTERMINATUS YOU IDIOTS" BEFORE we are shot and killed?"

[up][up][up]That's not limited to Relic, recent Warhammer fluff in general has been conspiring to punch the Eldar in the balls.

Though I think that's just the developers knowing their fanbase a little too well.

[up]That wouldn't be GRIMDARK enough, and that simply won't do!
