Nomura and Kojima are having a joint special autograph session at SDCC Just a heads up to anyone who can go; to get a ticket to the session you have to buy a qualified Play Arts Kai figure from their booth (limited quantity of course).

You'll also get front seats to the massive wormhole that will happen if they accidentally touch.

I sure said that!

How many times has Kojima made a cameo/self-reference in this series?

In Twin Snakes, weren't there "ghosts" you could take pictures of? Also, the portraits during the Mantis fight were of him and his team members.

MGS 2 had ghosts of the developers that I could never freaking find in the Tanker chapter.

MGS 4 had Kojima cast as "God", who ultimately sent Psycho Mantis back to the spirit world.

Naturally, Peace Walker puts Kojima as a recruitable ally. And then "Kojima is God".

He makes an appearance in Ground Zeroes.

Hearing about all these news about the Motherbase in Phantom Pain these last few weeks are making me really wanna go back and play Peace Walker, unfortunately I left it locked in a friend's PS 3 so I'll have to go there and transfar it back to my PSP if I wanna play it.

I suppose I should get back and finish pimping out Mother Base. Before it gets trashed.

I was reading the comment section of this video and found this:

Kojima was nuts to try to bring Big Boss back from being an evil character. What he says here is cold and diabolical. It was bad writing bringing him back as a hero in MGS 4.
- Ian Connell

Big Boss was not a hero in MGS 4, and he knew he wasn't. He only experienced redemption. He tried all his life to obtain the "inside world" dreamed by the boss, and he tried doing it by getting rid of system's chains, but he failed, and he understood just before his death the real meaning of the boss's teaching. He grew as human being in the very end of his life
- response

Spoken like a person who hasn't played Peace Walker.

Kojima knows what he's doing.

- response

The boss, although I loved her character, taught relativism, something Kojima values highly. It's a precept of postmodernism and all of the MGS games, especially the God-awful Sons of Liberty, contain a lot of postmodern concepts.

But relativism is a horrifically flawed argument. There is no reason it cannot be used to justify what the patriots are doing, or what the Nazis did, or stoning women in Afghanistan. All that it tells us is that if it's part of a "culture," then it is "not to be questioned."

Sorry, but when the USSR killed around 10 million political dissenters in their Gulag death camps, Kojima does not get the right to say "they just have a different way of thinking and that's their culture," as he did in MGS 3.

- Ian Connell

The ultimate flaw in absolution is that you "could" be wrong when you say he has no right to claim "they just have a different way of thinking and that's their culture", because... well, it is! You and I may not agree with it, but that's their believe - and quite obviously. They wouldn't do such things if they didn't believe them to be right. Evil is not evil. Everything is twisted intention.
- response

Actually, the reason I started quoting this was because I wanted your thoughts on the bolded text - I figure that's the point of Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain. But then it became a discussion full of "isms", and for such a philosophical franchise, it's always interesting to see/hear when "isms" and other schools of thought are thrown around outside of a lengthy essay.

[up]Last I heard the servers for pretty much all the MGS games were no longer in service, including the ones that allowed you to download stuff like DLC and the like. So don't get your hopes up.

Peace Walker allows for ad-hoc online play, so on one hand, it'll never be totally offline, but on the other, unless you have a PS 3 or a supermachine of a PC, it'll be kinda slow and janky.

Goddammit, how I wish they didn't lock the missions in such a way that you HAVE to complete the vehicle missions to keep unlocking more Perfect Stealth Extra Ops.

I'll try and complete those vehicle missions online in the weekend on my friend's PS 3, because fuck doing them alone.

Shit comes to shit you can just blow up the tank.

I completely gave up on getting S ranks and securing everyone until I got the infinite ammo bandanna and the fulton gustav.

I just threw everything I had into the last LAV I fought, equipped every life recovery item I had and just rushed it, heroism be damned.

This was after a perfect, perfect run, that I managed to neutralize every guard without alerting the tank went to shit after being run over by the damned thing clipping through the wall.

... Dang, you're awesome.

I could never manage a late APC/Tank/Helicopter battle without my trusty sleep grenades and Carl Gustav with Fulton rounds.

... How do the C.G. Fulton and Fulton Mines work, anyway? There's usually some explanation in Metal Gear for the weirder equipment, even if it's not necessarily the most realistic.

Fulton mine I can sorta get. It'd have to be bigger than the game makes it but I've got no clue in hell how the fulton gustav could possibly work.

Where did Kojima say Liquid wasn't that good at genetics, despite being armed with an IQ of 180, and that the Patriots were feeding him lies?

[up]I think he said it once or twice, but both times it was in a joking manner. And just because someone is put down as having a high IQ number doesn't mean they're very good with common sense or actually important knowledge.

Another possibility is that he was told by a "professional" (probably Naomi of all people) that what was made public about genetics was wrong and that the process used to create both himself and Solid had the ability to produce the result of an inferior and superior twin clone.

I mean, if we define "superior genes" as "resembles Big Boss more in regards to phenotypes" then it vaguely makes sense.
