All BIS games have been used as training tools for the US Army and (I think) the US Marine Corps. Having them involved from the start isn't too far fetched of an idea for me.
But don't the army training ones are different from the commercial games (ARMA vs VBS)? Same engine sure but game engine != content...

Give me cute or give me...something?Very much so. The offical military simulators focus more on procedure and following orders, or understanding how exactly a piece of equipment works. They also expect you to use the vehicles and get into firefight situations as well, but those are VERY scripted and make for a small part of the training program. During the simulated firefights, you're expected to win using a specific tactic, unlike the ARMA games which just give you equipment, objectives, and tell you to go forth and kill without getting killed yourself.
Oh, well, the thing is, VBS came after the first Flashpoint game, which was used in the US Army, the US Marine Corps and the British Army. VBS gen 1 only came into existence when those organizations said to BIS: "nom nom nom, more please."
VBS 2 is a mil-spec version of Arm A. VBS 3, which I think is going to follow in much the same way as night follows day will more than likely be a mil-spec version of Arm A 3.
So funny story turns out that taking photos for your game can be charged for spy stuff

I know that is this happened in the US, they wouldn't have to worry too much once they explained their story, but I'm not too sure if the authorities in Greece are savvy enough to believe them... any Greek tropers here that might be able to shed some light on their situation?

In case you are reading this, Bohemia Soft, that was a REALLY STUPID THING TO DO AND YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT.
It's launched now...got it much cheaper (around $38.50) than in Steam as well (almost as if I bought it during Alpha LOL).
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over. It's only around $26 in my country (box copy) though it won't be in store till like 26...still, I wonder if I should get it or not...

Give me cute or give me...something?Well keep me posted, I'm definitely interested in whether this one turns out to be a dud or not. Namely, Bohemia's reputation for really crappy AI is what comes to mind. Pity the campaign wasn't included first, it would've made for a good tutorial...
I'm hoping a campaign comes soon (and that everyone doesn't forget that the game isn't "Day Z... oh, and a milsim, I guess").
Unfortunately I can't play it even if I wanted to - my PC's specs probably don't meet the minimum (the computer chugs occasionally on ArmA II).
Locking you up on radar since '09The AI looks good for the Showcase Missions...there's still some weird bugs though. Like your two fellow tanks in the Tank Showcase bumping into each other, leading to one of them flying high in the air; but not before the crew of the flying tank gets outside. LOL
It only happened once, and never happened again though.
The minimum requirements is an Intel dual-core or AMD Athlon dual-core; Nvidia 8800 GT, AMD HD 3850, or Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics; 4GB of RAM...

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over. And lemme guess... the AI is hopeless in urban environments and complex terrain, right? Yep, nothing's changed.
Not really. The bugs are more to do with physics than anything else. A clanmate of mine was driving a truck for example, then another truck moving at probably 5cm/s bumped into his truck...bringing him at least 200m up into the air and dying inside the destroyed truck he was just driving a few seconds ago.
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.Anyone interested in starting a Troper Battalion? my Steam.
Direct all enquiries to Jamie B GoodThe Campaign is coming soon.
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over. Finally got round to picking the game on the Steam Sale. With all the added addons and stuff. Nice value, interesting campaign for the main game, slightly odd ballistic modelling. Lack of armor piercing ammunition is very jarring after spending weeks playing all the STALKER games, particularly when I'm pinging an enemy with tracer rounds at 200 meters, seeing all the bullets actually hit, and yet not seeing the enemy drop.
Heh.
No other posts. Guess I'm the only one currently playing this one?
Oh well. Finished all three elements of the original game's campaign mode, with the play nice with NATO ending, meaning I left James to die. Not good.
Currently on the last two missions in the Apex campaign mode. I'm not really fond of it. The insistence on respawns rather than saves because of the optional co-op mode is really annoying, and jungles are an absolute bitch to find people in during the day as there is no access to thermal sights until you kill your first CTAS Spec Op dude and steal his helmet from his corpse.
And you can't see those guys during the night through thermals as they've got better stealth uniforms than the ones the Americans use, so they've got no infra-red signature. Still, makes it better when you finally kill one of the bastards.
This is a wee bit late and there's only less than 3 days left, but you can grab ARMA 3 and all of the prior games plus DLC for only $15 USD from the Humble Bundle store. Unfortunately I don't think it includes the recent Apex DLC. Still, that's a pretty sweet deal overall if your PC is up to the task.
Massive update patch currently downloading from Steam, or at least I think 5.4 Gigabytes is a bit big. No sign yet on what it is all about as yet.

As soon as I said that I realized I'd googled it but not yet read the relevant result, which is here:

Great. More DLC.

Are you sure?
I never heard about this anywhere, and I didn't know there was any involvement of the army with the game besides the fact that it's based on the engine(or something like that) of that game BIS made as a training tool or something.
But you probably know more about it than I do.
:)
