Also, the article hasn't picked up a "Trope Repair Shop discussion" link to this post. Have I missed a step, or does it just take a while to update?
Don't have spaces when you put in the tag. I fixed it.
787 wicks and 1,901 inbounds. That is some very strong numbers. There is misuse?
Btw, why is this page locked?
Some guy sockpuppeting over some Mass Effect 2 example.

Eh, this is a answer to if there is misuse or for why the page is locked? At any rate, it doesn't explain either. PM the guy or ban him.
Why it was locked.
Because a whole bunch of people on multiple accounts were edit warring over examples and the alternative is to ban all of them. I could still do that, I guess.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It is more sensible then locking the whole page. I noticed it was locked today, though, so I guess it is a temporally lock until things calm down?
Anyway, I sidetracked. There is or there isn't significant misuse?
Also, if the misuse is broadened, rather than murder specific, we could just split Asshole Murder Victim off as a subtrope.
Fight smart, not fair. The reason I added the "This trope is restricted to persons who are dead" was to head off Trope Decay. A lot of people were apparently under the impression that any time you have a Jerkass who was victimized, corpse or not, it was a case of Asshole Victim. This was before Laconic Wiki, so no short description existed at that time and all people had to go by from a "tl;dr" perspective was the title, IIRC.

FYI, Eddie locked the page again after yet another new account was created for the sole purpose of adding that disputed ME2 example. WTF is wrong with people?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Too much respiration in their lives. It's easily fixed, you just need to find the sufferers.
Fight smart, not fair. Some people won't let things go. Honestly, just ban that IP instead. It might make other people from that computer suffer, but... there's not much choice.
And I agree with the rename.
I got confused over the Asshole Victim name for the same reason. Victim is pretty broad, and doesn't mean being "dead", really. I support Asshole Murder Victim full-heartidly. Or we could just make a new trope for a variation of it for the non-death version.
Quest 64 threadI support Asshole Murder Victim, but not as a split because, as pointed in the first post, isn't an Asshole Victim that doesn't get murdered essentially just a KickTheSonOfABitch? (Or is the purpose of that trope to emphasize the villain's actions, not the victimization of a jerk?)

derflatermouse.
The article starts out as follows:
"This trope is restricted to persons who are dead. If they aren't dead, it's not a case of Asshole Victim."
but this is not obvious from the title alone. Rename it to "Asshole Murder Victim" and it would be.
I figure most/all incorrect links to Asshole Victim should instead link to Kick the Son of a Bitch.
