IT should be legal in all. People own themselves: Their lifes are their own, and they should be allowed to choose to forfeit'em, or to choose to do anything at all, except violating the rights of other person without their consent.
Consent and self-ownership define morality.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.Some countries don't even allow unassisted suicide.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Yes, with the proviso that there are a shitload of checks and balances.
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.Which is also a problem.
Fight smart, not fair.Any thoughts on weather it should be run by private companies or government?

My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting FailureIrrelevant. The person seeking death should make his/her wishes known. The chosen Mercy Killer would act, protected from legal reprisals by the victim's unambiguous consent.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.LOL! Private companies that profit every time they help someone die. yeah, i see no chance of "the bottom line" causing problems.

As long as those companies cannot coerce people in any way, what's the problem?
They'll have business as long as there's people who want to die.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.I'm trying to thing of assisted suicide in fiction, I can only think of two examples, the suicide booths from Futurama and the suicide kits of Children Of Men.
update: not a new idea apparently.

My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting Failure@Excelion: If people want to die, it's their business. I'm not my brother's owner or keeper, that I've gotta tell people whether they've got good reason to off themselves or not.
If someone wants the lethal injection and gets it, it's ultimately their call.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.You're right, that's a rip-off.
"Had Mother Nature been a real parent, she would have been in jail for child abuse and murder." -Nick Bostrom@OP: Yes.
I also see no problem in having corporations benefit on people taking their own lives. Except for, you know, the families left behind.
On the other hand, I think that the end goal should be the extermination of the entire human race, so I'm probably not the person to listen to.

Would you like some Soylent Green ?
@OP: Nope.
If you need some one to hold your hand when you die, you don't deserve a peaceful death.

hashtagsarestupidWith a ton of checks and balances and probably at least a week waiting period, why not? I'd prefer if it was government so poor people would have access as well.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Yes.
and @joeyjoe - Why?
Assisted suicide is done by individuals with terminal illness. Most of them still have families, and they want their families to help send them off. I don't see what's so dishonorable about that that it deserves a painful death.

Would you kindly click my dragons? Can't they save money and jump off a bridge or something?
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOIThat's painful. And also a mess for the city to clean up.
Not if they land head first.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOII always make a "drink some bleach, it's cheaper" type of comment for that.
Fight smart, not fair.
Inspired by this article about "Suicide Tourism".
Should people have right to end their own lives in this way?
