Guess That Trope.
The protagonists are minding their own business when one is surprisingly killed by something.
Yeah, I think it needs a rename.

Yep, I dislike the current name as well, especially because I do not really think the "guest" part of it seems very straightforward.

As for a possible rename, I would suggest Surprisingly Sudden Death though I am not so sure about that. Right now Sudden Death is being used as the name of Sudden Death parts of games so I would guess that that name is off limits at this point.

I made a single proposition rename crowner here. Feel free to tell me if I did something wrong in making it.

I do not really dislike the suggestion of Dynamic Dialogue Death, but I wonder if dialogue is really necessary for the trope to work. I feel like that name may seem to exclude examples that actually fit under the current description of the trope.

The current name sounds like a house-guest who turns out to be an axe murderer.

Surprise, Sudden, Unexpected, Killer, Slayer, Kill... At least one combination of those should work as a trope title, and the rest could be decent punk band names.

I apologize for waiting so long on this, but I made an alternative titles crowner here. Feel free to edit it and add titles as you wish.

The wicks are fixed, a Surprisingly Sudden Death page now exists, and Deadly Guest is a redirect. Notes about the rename are also now on the Renamed Tropes page and in the Renamed Tropes thread.

I feel a little uneasy going through with the rename process given the relative lack of votes in the crowner. However, since this thread has been bumped multiple times and the crowner has not changed much at all, I think it should be okay. If I did something wrong, however, I can go back and revert the trope to how it was before.

Also, there were a few uses of the trope that talked about an actual deadly guest (i.e. someone or something hidden in a ship/house). I tried to edit those examples out as misuse, but I would appreciate it if someone checked my work there.
