That's why I became a pilot... Kiera thought to herself. I'm stupid enough to believe the patriotic B.S. people spew...
It's kind of funny. Sufficiently advanced stupidity is like sufficiently advanced science; eventually, you find something you can't solve.Kara Cheslock listened to the Captain's speach with her full attention. In her head, she thought about the journey from her enlistment to this point.
This is the start of my carrer as an Ace. She smiled, she could just imagine her dad smiling right now as his baby girl desended upon Aeris. Dad, if you could hear me right now, thanks for preparing me for this moment. She beamed in her mind, And to make sure you know it, I promise that, when the Cent army is nothing more than twisted metal and broken bodies, I'll be the one to raise our flag in trimuph!

"Right," A blone fellow with a pompadour stood up in front of the flight as the others did likewise, "I'm Lt. Goebel. You can call me Yazan. In the field, I go by Kamikaze. It's my job to keep you alive. Subordinates dying cuts my pay cheques. Comprende?"

See, the fox was said to know a thousand tricks for escaping from hounds and such, and back when I was just shuttling supplies and the like, I had a nasty habit of improvising a few manuevers here and there, flaring landing kicking up more dust than absolutely neccesary, etc. So, people called me the flying fox. I was a little offended at being named after a fruit-bat, for a while, but it grew on me. Then, Eventually, I got pressed into combat, Air-support and what-not. Became "fire-fox" after I ran out of fuel mid-flight. Thought to myself 'there's an enemy emplacement. Shame to let this heavy piece of metal go to waste'... Managed to bail, and high-tailed it away as fast as I could. Foxfire is what some people call an aurora, so, after staring up at one, someone made the connection, and I've been fox fire ever since."

Armed mine like a Cent; Shield, Plasma Blade. Explosives. Fast as hell, next to invisible. One good shot could total it, but I've yet to find some one quick enough to hit it."

Maybe it would be best if I spoke with the Captain as well.
Gathering her courage, she stepped towards her squadmates and tried to join the conversation.
"Captain," She began uneasily, "If it's alright to ask, where were you stationed perviously?"
"Helios 47th Guard Corps. I saw action in Lai Dame and New Dakota, forced the Cent fleet to break and retreat. I kept near Helios, Cheslock. My people are down on Aeris," He glanced toward the window, "My Mother was raised down in Midgar. And after eight years of fighting, today we take it back."

Kara glared at Kiera.
How could she be so ungrateful? She mentally scoffed, If she dislikes the Federation so much, then she should have just stayed home. Shaking her head, turned to face their desination.
"I hope it's as easy as you say it is captian."
"... Wow... I just managed a weird crossbreed of Badass Boast and The reason we suck speech... go me..." she said, facepalming.
"For the record, that wasn't supposed to... that was... That was not intended to sound that... I'm going to try and rephrase that later..."

"You're gonna see in about twenty minutes," Yasan said, "We're spear-heading an assault through Aeris' orbital ring. Nailing their kill Sats from their soft underbelly. Resistance should be minimal."

Announcement of a Centauri assault on the peace conference has ended any hope of peace in the near future.
The go ahead was given to operation Mjöllnir. Every available ship and frame in Helios was mobilized.
The plan: A mass assault on Aeris, the Centauri's greatest foothold in the system. They numbered 5,000 frames strong. It would be Further divided into Three assault groups.
You would be the 8th Squadron to touch the surface. The 2nd to land on the city of Midgar, the largest city on Aeris, soon to be the Defacto capital of the assault.
If you looked outside, you could see the infinity of space. On the horizon Aeris was rising before you while, behind you an armada followed. Closest and most visible Grigori transports, much like the ones you were in.
Captain Hunting stood before you and the rest of the Squadron,
"Brave men and women of the Federation in one hour we will arrive at our destination in an hour. Many of you may not have expected this a week ago. Neither did we. You have been grabbed and drafted from all over this system into this plan without a great deal of expectations for you. But know this, while now, we may be little more than a band of misfits and vagabonds by the time our service is done, we will be a band of siblings held together by bonds closer than blood. The Federation is a land of dreams forged into reality through perseverance and hope. A land where a janitor at West-Lagrange can become a Captain in the military. If they could turn me into a commander, then I shall turn you into battle ready soldiers. So long as this determination stands in our hearts, the Centauri aggression and treachery shall not stand!"
