Amazon Studios ; Apparently this project has been kicking around for the past 6 months, but this is the first I heard of it. Fair warning, they have your script by the neck for the next 18 months, with an option to extend it to 3 years with a $10K Payoff, but if you're okay with putting an idea on the chopping block, it might be a good way to meet filmmakers, get a script under your belt, and get some notoriety. Also, there is an option to allow people to edit and resubmit your script as an editing credit, be wary and know that you can turn it off.

Personally, I'll bite. There aren't that many communities for filmmakers and writers to meet up at the hobby level without egos in the way, and it's got Amazon's name on it. Perhaps I'm naive, but are the chances in Hollywood for monies that much better?

If you're serious about making movies, you'll do it yourself. That includes finding investors, production, and marketing. You probably have a better chance of getting hit by lightning than having a script accepted in Hollywood.

Having said that, it looks like a decent opportunity, as long as you are prepared for disappointment.

But I'm not serious, and that's the really great thing. I'm dipping my toes in just to get some plot bunnies out of my head, meet some production guys, and seeing where this train goes. I'm probably not going to bring my A-Game, (not without some serious rethinking of the rights, or multiple formats to conceptualize in, anyway) but for here or there, it seems fun.
