Don't worry, it's not deep and meaningful or anything. But I was in a friends house reading the book "Rovering to Success". Now, this friend spends a lot of his time in Bali, Malaysia and other South East Asian countries, and they're decorations have kinda come home with him. Namely statues and busts of the Theravada Buddha. Once while reading I looked up to see Buddha (Again, not as meaningful as it sounds) and one thing I noticed is that he had his eyes closed. After looking at other Statues of him around the house I noticed the same thing. It seems the Mahayana Buddha has the same thing going and I was wondering why. It's not constant, some depictions do have open eyes, but it seems far to common to be a coincidence. Thoughts? Answers?

As I type this I have a sword in one hand and a gun in the other.

You close your eyes when you meditate I guess :P

A guy called dvorak is tired. Tired of humanity not wanting to change to improve itself. Quite the sad tale.

[up]Yes. Also, in more general terms, Buddhism is a psychological religion - it's about achieving an ideal state of being through "mindfulness", although there is a strong moral element too. Cutting out external distractions is part of the point.
