If the kid turned out to have been aware of how morally reprehensible cheating and plagiarism are, you wouldn't be having this argument?

I suppose, if we all knew for a fact that the child realized that what she was doing was wrong, then we wouldn't argue about whether she was capable of such understanding. There'd still be the question of whether she should have been expected to refuse to go along with the teacher, but those of us who have posted so far seem to all agree that she could not have been reasonably expected to defy him.

So, no, I guess if it was established as fact that she knew she shouldn't have passed off the paper as her own, we would not be debating anything.
