I've been curious as to what the distinction between the two is, and I haven't been able to find it in my own research. Can someone clarify, if it's not too much trouble?

You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!

As far as literature is concerned, modernistic literature was a recent trend in novels and non-fiction to focus on the individual, as sort of a way to show how the value of the people changed. Modernism was more or less the attitude that WWII's population had, being people devoted to a cause and goal. Modernism was about achievement and individuality.

Post modernism had a shift to focus on rebellion. It basically got to making things like "The Unreliable Narrator" more popular and was about mocking the previous generation's methods by using paradoxes and lots of sarcasm and lampshade hanging (take the name for example, modern means now, post means after, it's effectively the generation that has no particular place).

Overall, the modernism to post modernism shift was a shift in goals and attitude that marked us going from committed individuals to those who like to tinker around a lot, which was subsequently shown in literature.

WARNING: This was also incredibly abridged, there's several differences between to the two generations.

Post modernism had a shift to focus on rebellion.

This seems misleading, given how much of modernism was flipping off tradition. Like serialism.

Let me try that again: Post Modernism had a shift in focus from being goal oriented to being less about the end product and more about "Gee, what do I feel like doing now" sort of deal. Arguably the entire attitude behind many programmers now (which popped up with post modernism).

This is still horribly abridged.

The thing about making witty signature lines is that it first needs to actually be witty.

Modernism is a style, like many others, which utilizes a particular set of techniques and themes. Postmodernism is a movement that rejects specific form, absolutism, and binaries which the Western civilization and art have depended on for centuries. It tends toward subversion, deconstruction, fragmentation, and combinations of different schools of style.

If styles were people, modernism would be an emo while postmodernism would be a hipster.

I know what you said, sugar, but 'platonic' still entails a world of ideas.

That "abridged" explanation helped me so much. SO I'll be a post-post modernist if I wrote a book 20 years from now? Or will Generation iCare have a better word for their style.

If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.
