Presumably it means that it's theoretically possible to have computers in a pre-industrial society. As long as no one uses them I guess.

No, it means that Rott likes computers, but he wants to have the social aspects of a pre-industrial civilization to go along with them. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You can't really enforce a lot of the aspects of pre-industrialization society if you keep using modern technology. For instance the communication options provided by phones and the internet are going to start changing society the second you include them.

Society encompasses more than gender roles. The very existence of computer technology requires fields of study and work which did not exist in a pre-industrial society. If you want your longing for some kind of troglodyte utopia to be acknowledged as legitimate, log off your computer. Otherwise, understand that the benefits of modern technology are historically inextricable to the loosening of tradition and dogma.

"And we all know that emotions (a significant component of personality) are greatly influenced by hormones. Since it's widely accepted that there are hormonal differences between males and females, why wouldn't this affect their emotions and personalities?" - ashnazg

This is to some extent accepted. (See the stereotypes about men being aggressive.)

Really, it seems the issue is not really denial altogether that hormonal differences create behaviour difference. The selectiveness seems to be about what the differences ARE.

If we're gonna regress society technologically, it's gotta be past the first great Singularity. That's right, I'm talking about agriculture, which enabled humanity to dominate the world. Screw that noise, it's hunter-gatherer societies for all! Hunt for the tribe, drive out invaders, and protect the women and children! When the herds move on, follow them over deserts and tundra lest everyone you know perishes. It's simple, everyone has their place, and you learn it or die.

Except I'd miss my computer. And not having parasites.
