One day I'll finish Wizardry 8. I owe that bloody Dark Savant from the phoon fighting days back in Wizardry 7...that I never progressed past.

Installing the game now. Wondering if I should set it on easy or something. Made like a half dozen false starts, the game is a ton of fun but I want to FINISH IT finally rather then slowly slogging through hundreds of difficult ass battles.

Got done playing the demo.

It is incredibly easy to get lost however I love the combat system.

Nope, it's "Gamepot", with no "s" at all. "Gamepot Inc." to be exact. Not that I know who they are.

Anyway, I may get Wizardry 8. My father has a copy of that game, but for some reason the CDs aren't working anymore. I have no need for the other games, though, since I have the Ultimate Wizardry Archives.

[up]They're a Japanese publisher of various MM Os including their first success, Pangya (that one cartoony golf game similar to Hot Shots Golf). They also developed Wizardry Online, which was published by Sony Online Entertainment in the US.

A Japanese company owns Wizardry now? Why I'm not surprised?

^Well, they ARE the ones producing new ones over there while there hasn't been new game in west since ever.

If the MMO was any indication, I'm not a fan of Japanese Wizardry. They removed the Sci Fi elements, most of the races, and gave us short "cute" things.

I've played both 7 and 8 and never finished either.

While I can see that happening, the online game isn't probably something you should compare to normal games. I mean, MMO games work totally differently, putting many races in them for example is very hard I think when compared to something like normal first person dungeon crawlers where you don't even need models for them.

Anyway, why is that? Were they bad?

While I never played the MMO, I have Labyrinth of Lost Souls for PS 3. It's very close to the original Wizardry games. And with "original", I meant the first three games. Seriously, imagine those with better graphics and you have LoLS. I find that quite charming, but it does nothing new, which may put off many people. And even the target demographic (the purist among the purists) may be scared off by the manga-style artwork and Japanese voices.

The MMO has perma-death and player corpse looting, in which cash items can be lost. 'Hardcore' plus monetization in one convenient package!

^^Huh, makes sense. I mean, Japanese don't tend to do much of innovation when it comes to RPG they like, they just tend to do it over and over until people get bored. At least thats what it seems like when comparing majority of FF and DQ games, they are rather similar with later installments being the different ones.

The subject of the Wizardry series has come up recently in my life and now I'm tempted to buy a copy of 7 off Steam. Like, maybe I'll get the bundle that has the whole Dark Savant series because I've still never been the last two games, but I have no idea if I really want to risk a delve into 6 first.

But I'm tempted. Maybe at long last play that dreaded faerie ninja who gets the Infinity +1 Sword.

Well, won't keep posting if nobody else is interested, but I bought Wizardry 7. The nostalgia is real.

And holy shit, it only took three attempts to get my elf monk. Which I needed because...reasons. The reason being that my old friend when I was a teenager wanted an elf monk because of reasons he never explained; and I didn't know what a monk was. I was seriously confused as to why we wanted elven Friar Tuck in the party, and how exactly a dude who lived in a monastery, prayed, and made copies of the Bible contributed to the party and differed from a priest.

I think the conversation was something like:

"Dude, he knows Kung Fu!
"Huh? Why?"
"Because he's a monk"
"Since when do monks know Kung Fu?!"
"Since when have they not?"
