Well, I suppose we could. I keep a supply of messages in a note file, myself. No need for an official one, really.

I think the warning could use a slight tweak. It only mentions not nattering in the main page, but there are other subpages where natter should be discouraged. For example, I just had to use it for someone on a YMMV page who thought it was a place to just argue about an example. (All you have to do is list both options on a subjective trope.)

This is probably a bad idea, but how about a system that auto-bans, or at least flags as problematic, anyone who uses This Troper anywhere outside of allowed namespaces?

Yeah, that's a problem.

How about automatically sending the natter-fy PM to people who put This Troper in main or whatever instead? No harm done, and s/he might learn something.

As long as it doesn't do it for existing text and only to added text. Otherwise it would probably be more annoying then helpful.
