That's disappointing. I still have DS 1 on disc, since I bought it on release. Never did get the expansion pack, though.

Why can't DS 1 and DS 2 be bought seperately, anyway? It's kinda strange.

Oh great. I tried running Dungeon Siege III and it crashed on startup for some reason. Just a black screen for a few seconds followed by crash. No amount of reinstallations and cache verifications can make it run.

I mean, a mobile I5 with a Geforce 425M graphics card, 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 32-bit should get it running right?

PS: I was able to run the demo with this setup. How is it you guys are still able to run it?

Like I said, I was able to run the demo with this setup. I think one of the patches broke the game, or something.

The patch only fixes some hotkey I think, no bugs or glitches, since the game doesn have many,

I've never seen bugs for this game, certainly nothing on the level of a ctd.

Have you tried asking people on steam forums? Actually the Obsidian forums would give you a much more rapid response. Maybe even one from devs.

The patches just fixed controls and enabled rebinding keys.

I'm going to double post in case you don't notice an edit.

I've searched the Obsidian forums and one thread mentions the game crashing after the Treasures of the Sun DLC is downloaded. Your issue could be related to Tot S.

Here's the link to that thread, one guy found a fix that a lot of Steam users have also confirmed it works.

See if that helps.

Sooooooo, played it for a bit. Some thoughts.

No character creation, which is disappointing. However, the four playable characters all seem pretty varied and even have voice acting in dialogue scenes, which gives them some personality, so that's cool.

The controls are a bit awkward. Having to hit E to manipulate objects and pick up items feels strange, since the DS games had you just clicking on everything, like most hack & slash games. The game also has an annoying tendency to autotarget some guy on the other side of the screen, so instead of swinging my sword that the guy next to me, I strike the empty air next to him. The controls feel like they might be better with a gamepad, seeing as it's a multiplatform game, but the PC version doesn't offer gamepad support. Go figure.

Character customization seems decent. I was never that fond of the classless system in the first two games. They might as well have just had four classes, (Fighter, Archer, Nature Mage and Arcane Mage) since specializing in more than one just meant gimping your character. DS 2 even tells you at the start that you should just pick one and stick with it.

Multiplayer sucks. All you can basically do is team up and help your friend, but you don't get to play your own character or trade gold/equipment. Very half-arsed. The previous games had solid multiplayer befitting a Diablo-esque hack and slash game, why can't this one?

It's kind of puzzling why Obsidian made this game. Their strength has always been with the story and character interaction side of RP Gs, not combat and multiplayer. This is a game that emphasises their weaknesses and downplays their strengths. As a hack and slash game, it's decent enough I suppose. But I'd honestly rather be playing Torchlight or Diablo II.

Since I bought Dungeon Siege "Complete" on Steam, which includes DS 1 and DS 2, I'll talk about that. Neither game has their expansion pack, and both inexplicably have the multiplayer mode disabled. Nice false advertising there, Steam.

So yeah... if I'd paid full price I'd feel kinda ripped off, but twelve bucks fifty isn't bad for three games.

Steam didnt make false ads, its not their fault that Obsidian disabled MP for the other 2 games

I think it's possible to re-enable MP if you mess around with some options. It's on the steam forums I think.

Of course I can't imagine trying to play Dungeon Siege MP, since, frankly I found Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 to be quite terrible. Autoattack autoattack, finished a dungeon. Might as well leave autoattack on all day and go make a sandwich. I can understand why people complained that it was an interactive screensaver when it came out at the time.

U5 Lazarus is the only redeeming aspect of those games personally.

EDIT: Here's the fix.

That first thread you linked me to? Already checked. No one at Obsidian has responded for days, and checking the Steam forums, I tried the fixes there but it still won't launch.

It's not just missing the multiplayer, it's missing the expansion packs for both games. It's advertised as Dungeon Siege "Complete" when it is, in actual fact, incomplete. It may not technically be false advertising because they didn't specifically say it included these things, but it's certainly misleading.

Dammit, this is getting frustrating.

post up your bug on the Obsidian forums, while the devs don't post there often chances are you'll get someone who can give you better advice than us.

In the meantime is there another computer you can use?

I'm not sure Obsidian forum is the right place for DS 1 and 2. They are just contracted by Square Enix to do DS 3, all the rights belong to Square Enix, Obsidian can't just decide what they want to do and probably have nothing to do with the older games.

And that also answer the question of why Obsidian did this project. Money, Dear Boy. They have repeatedly refer to DS 3 as a low-cost, quicky project that give good return for the investment. Obsidian seems to have rather bad luck when it comes to money. Even with a smash hit like New Vegas, most of the money went to Bethesda anyway, they need some quick money to keep them afloat.

DS 3 also serve as the proving ground for the Onyx Engine which they intend to use in future game.

Nettacki is asking about DS 3 though so his questions are relevant. DS 1 and 2 questions are for Steam forums.

Obsidian simply did the project cause Square Enix wanted to add a WRPG to their portfolio and thought the DS license was rotting away and Obsidian needs projects to stay alive.

Obsidian has nothing to do with DS 1 and 2, those were made by Gas Powered Games.

I'm warming up to this game a bit. A couple hours in I've gotten used to the controls, and the combat is actually pretty fun.

What do you guys think the chances of this game getting a proper multiplayer mode are? All it really needs is the ability to rename your character and maybe trade items and whatnot with other players. Just something similar to the old Dungeon Siege games.

Edit: Okay, definitely changed my mind about this game. I just got a new party member, Anjali, and killed one of the first major bosses, Lord Gunderic. The battles in this can get absolutely chaotic. The controls, once you get used to them, work really well even with a mouse and keyboard.

So George Ziets, who wrote DS 3 and also Mot B, recently left Obsidian along with Justin Cherry (was involved with the art direction of Mot B, So Z and DS 3 which are easily Obsidian's best looking games) which makes me a sad panda.

But Ziets also set up his own formspring like JE Sawyer so I guess it's time to start pestering him about stuff.

I'm surprised Ziets had no idea about the storyline of Black Hound and came up with Mot B's storyline independently although I guess both of those games seem to be inspired by Torment.
