That's probably a good description, since Blair wasn't exactly horribad but bad enough to become very unpopular. We're lucky that Harper wasn't in power in 2003, otherwise we'd be in Iraq right now.
@ Whale.
Because Harper himself is a Conservative (which is also nicknamed 'The Tories' in Canada, but they have no Labour or Lib Dem party...).
Well, we do have a Liberal Party; they aren't much of a party, at the moment, but they still exist.
The Tories are the party in power, and the Liberals are opposition, right?
The Tories are in power, and the NDP is the opposition. The Liberals are just a mess, now.
We have similar political systems (House of Commons, FPTP, Queen is head of state, right?), so I'm going to assume that the NDP do a lot of funny things while in opposition.
How big is the Tory majority?
The NDP have not been the opposition for very long, in fact they haven't been a significant party until very recently. You all know who Jack Layton was right?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_commons_canada
- Conservatives (166)
- New Democrats (102)
- Liberals (34)
- Bloc Québécois (4)
- Green (1)
- Vacant (1)
Conservatives == tories
Liberals == liberals
NDP == ... labour i guess is closest, but they're more like social democrat
bloc == choose one of your five different separatist parties to compare against
Green == fiscally conservative, socially liberal, heavy on enviro regulations

Yes. I rather admire the fellow. Your thoughts on him?
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksHe died recently. Too bad, he seemed like a great guy.
Whoever succeeds him as the head of the NDP will have a LOT to live up to.
Stephen Harper will probably lose the next election, as Canadians will realize when you vote for a Tory majority they'll do... Conservative things.
I'll actually won't be surprised if the NDP can come back fromLAyton's death and win the next election. An NDP minority would be interesting.

If you don't like a single Frank Ocean song, you have no soul.The question is "Will the federal Liberals ever be a viable party within the next 30 years?"
I mean damn, the party of Chretien and Trudeau down to 34 seats...not even Official Opp...I was not surprised at how fast the knives came out for Ignatieff after those results, but they'll be going after the kingmakers next. Grit internal politics are ruthless.
Back on topic, I cannot wait to see Harper go. If he passes his law banning federal campaign financing, though, it'll be a hard slog. I hope they can prevent that somehow.
Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.I'm thinking it'll take 10 years, unless the Tories really fuck up.
