Chien froze, looking at the glow emanating from her pocket.

No, no, no, you have to be joking, not here...

Yukino saw that her ring was glowing bright white. So it is a witch, which means that girl can do nothing. Yukino stepped out onto the rooftop, transforming her soul gem out of its ring form and holding the gem tightly. Be ready at any moment... Probability of her jumping is very high. "You two, what do you think you're doing? Get back from there, you'll be hurt."

Tsubasa felt a cold chill travelling down her spine. She looked around her, but saw nothing out of ordinary. Yet she felt... uncomfortable. Almost as if something was wrong. She frowned. No, something was wrong. She stood up and examined her surroundings. Still nothing.

After a while the brown-haired teenager sighed and sat down. It was probably just her imagination playing tricks with her again. She could always tell when somebody close to her was lying or having a bad day, but then she had moments like these, too. She'd been getting them at least once every week after they'd moved to the city. Tsubasa sighed again. She clearly wasn't suited for city life. It wasn't like she kept on getting these feelings because there was something wrong with Imaizumi, right?

Chien glanced at the glow in her pocket, then up at the roof.

Gulping, she starts to sprint towards the roof, intending to get there as fast as possible.

Slowly but surely, the environment of the rooftop started to change. A sudden fog seemed to envelop the whole area, making it hard to see the scenery away from the roof. The lighting became vague and soft, and it's source unable to be fathomed. At the very least it didn't seem to come from the now unseen sun above. The noise of the wound blowing also blocked out all sounds coming from the city.

In the span of a couple seconds their world seemed to have been reduced to only that rooftop.

Akira reflexively pulled away as Natsumi grabbed her wrist, momentarily unbalancing the other girl as she ran into the railing. For a tense moment, the two stood stock-still against the solid metal... then Natsumi won out, using leverage to pull Akira into the railing.

"Let me go," Akira hissed, tears streaming down her face as she struggled. "I have to - If I don't jump, I'll -" She paused, both in speaking and in struggling. What would happen if she didn't jump? Hadn't she been over that already?

Her neck started to itch as a bank of fog rolled in, obscuring details farther away than Natsumi even more than they already had been. Akira frowned and pulled again at her arm, but Haruna was strong for her size, and she made little progress.

"Shut up!!" Natsumi's hand began to shake, but she maintained her grip on Akira's arm. She could feel herself breaking out in a cold sweat. "What the hell is this!?" She gave a final tug and Akira toppled over the railing, landing on the roof. "Hold still!" She shoved her classmate against the railing. She paused for a moment as she noticed the black mark on Akira's neck.

Did she get a tattoo or something? No, now is not the time for that!

Her eyes tried to make sense of the whirling shapes and sounds that were spinning around her, but it was futile. She wanted to close her eyes, and shut out the madness that was assaulting her, but she was frozen.

Dozens of tiny voices began to fill the silence.

" come and play! come and play! come and play!"

She watched through terrified eyes as something began to emerge from the darkness. The hand that wasn't holding onto Sasaki clenched into a fist.

This is a dream. It has to be. This can't be real. It's just a nightmare. It's just a nightmare...

Chien barrells up the stairway, her hand reaching into her pocket.

Natsumi stared in horror as a multitude of tiny creatures scuttled out of the black fog. They looked sort of like plush crab dolls, with metal scissors where their claws were supposed to be.

"Get away!" She tried to back up, but found her back was already against the railing. She kicked out at one of the creatures. "Leave us alone!"

Her foot whipped out again, this time connecting solidly with one of the crabs. It landed a short distance away. It was still for a moment before it flipped itself upright and began to clamber towards the two girls. She kicked again and felt a sharp twinge of pain in her calf. One of the crab's scissor-claws had blood on the edge.

As you stand right now you won't be able to protect her... you won't even be able to protect yourself...

More of the little creatures appeared on the edge of their vision, tiny eyes lighting up as they scurried in the darkness of the fog. Small voices called at them in a foreign language, happy and merry voices contrasting with the bizarre space they resided in.

However inside of you there lies an amazing power... A great light that could cut through all this darkness

Yukino readied herself, still keeping the Soul Gem in her hand. Magical barrier forming... Let's just wait a second more, I can't rush in.

Akira blinked rapidly, trying with no luck to get the scurrying black shadows to resolve into shapes that made sense. The urge to jump was still strong, but first - first, she had to find out what was going on here. Next to her, Natsumi cried out - in shock or in pain, Akira couldn't really tell - and kicked out again at the shadows. The mass of creatures merely weaved back from her foot, though, and swarmed in as the kick arced out harmlessly above them.

This is what you want, said a quiet voice from just over her shoulder. Let them play with you. It will only hurt for a few minutes, and then we can play together forever. Akira cried out as a cold line traced its way across her toes, followed by a spray of warm liquid up her shin. She fell to one knee, and the creatures - horrific crabs with scissorblade-hands - came sharply into focus. "No, I don't want this," she shouted, burying her face in her arms to avoid the wicked blades. "I don't want this!"

Chien hit the door at the top of the stairs. She struggled futilely with it, trying to open it, before she realized it opened the other way.

Gritting her teeth and blushing, she enters the Witch's Space.

Yukino immediately changed forms. Her school uniform was quickly replaced by the long blue dress and white jacket of her Puella Magi garb. Her soul gem shaped itself into a white snowflake and attached itself onto her right hip. "Watch out!" She raised her hand and summoned a flurry of knives, waving her hand towards the witch's minions, Yukino commanded the storm of blades to erase their existence.

The knives responded quickly, weaving in a curved flights, each turning the crab-creatures into pincushions.

"Are you all alright?"

Chien, seeing the fog, transforms herself.

Her school clothes melt down, smoothing themselves into one long, white gown. A whip appears in her hand as her Soul Gem transforms into a five-pointed star, fitting snugly on her left hip.

Indeed... A single girl cannot do anything against this darkness and despair...

The small familiars were annihilated by the flurry of knives the unknown girl threw. Their dark and hideous forms cut and dispelled by the shinning steel of this mysterious protector.

However... A Magical Girl can combat the despair and darkness

With that last message the little white messenger made himself be seen, sitting behind the Puella Magi.

Chien advanced slowly, unsure as to where she was.

She tested each step before she moved. She listened closely for any signs of movement.

When she heard scuttling to her left, she instinctively lashed out. Her whip made a loud CRACK is it caught the creature dead-on.

Yukino turned her gaze to the creature without turning her head.

"I should have known you were around here, puffball. You have this way of becoming a factor in any situation."

Natsumi stared in awe at the newcomer. The blue dress and white jacket shone brightly against the darkness that had devoured the roof. She crouched down protectively next to Akira.

"Who are you!? And what the hell is going on!?"

Yukino turned her gaze to her subordinate. "I'm Satomi Yukino, a 3rd year here. Judging by the bows on your uniforms, you're first years. What's going on is your friend here is being manipulated by a monster called a witch. To put things as shortly as possible, I am a witch hunter."

Get away.

Akira's body jerked to the side, pushing the heel of her hand into Natsumi's armpit and shoving her away. Akira turned, half-stood, and fell again as she tried to put weight on her injured foot; she hooked her fingers on the edge of the roof and pulled herself forward, sliding under the waist-high railing. Her neck burned, and the voice would just not shut up.

Come now come play with me come come you are mine! Escape them and come to me, mine mine mine

Natsumi was dragged along as Akira pulled herself towards the roof's edge. She clenched one hand tightly around Akira's wrist, and wrapped the other arm around the railing support.

"What the hell is wrong with you!?" She turned to Yukino. "Help me! She's trying to jump!"

Yukino gestured at the struggling girl and a series of rope-like lights ensnared her and pulled her back to safety. Yukino walked over to the girl and checked her neck. Surely enough, a witch's kiss was there. "Miss, I'm going to have to ask you to keep an eye on this girl, you look strong enough to keep her from doing something stupid again." Yukino passed a hand over the subordinate wounds, and watched as they healed near instantly.

"I'm going to try and find the witch that's doing this to her. If I kill it, then your friend will be safe again. But it's your responsibility to protect her."

"Can you give me some sort of weapon or something?" Natsumi asked? "I don't think I can fight off any more of those crab things on my own."

Yukino produced a large combat knife and handed it handle first to the girl. "Anything else you need to know?"
