She opened up her lunchbox, overstuffed with food. "Take your pick. Hey, would you like to go eat up on the roof? You can invite those other friends of yours."

Hiroko began to single out the food she wanted, placing it to the side as she collected it.

"Well... about what happens after you die? It's... not something I think about to often..." her voice trailed off for a moment. "Well, I'd imagine that... something happens, I just don't know what."

When Hikari spoke, Hiroko nodded. "Yeah, it seems more fun then just sitting in the room the whole time."

After a moment of silence, she turned to Chiyo again. "By the way, are you feeling okay? You looked kinda out of it earlier. I mean, it was Kagawa-sensei, but still."

"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."

"I- I just guess I just finally realized how boring this world has gotten. I've been wondering all morning about what the next one must be like. If nothing else, it'll all be new right?" Chiyo's eyes seemed to come into focus for the first time all day, with something like a grin beginning to form on her mouth.

"It'll be a whole new world to discover! To explore, to understand! It'll-" She cut herself off abruptly. The grin evaporated, and she looked at the floor. Hikari's words seemed to finally reach her.

"Um… why don't we go to the roof. It'll be better if we talk about this on the roof."

Hiroko agreed with Chiyo at first. The world was boring, for the most part. But there were some interesting things in it. Like friends, and... well, Hiroko would find some way to make life interesting for herself if she was really bored.

"Well, I don't want to die to find a new world," Hiroko replied. "If I was going to find a new world, I'd find it here!"

She stood up, bundling her food carefully to avoid losing any.

"Well, let's head up to the roof!"

—Tsubasa Suoh—

Suoh went off to the cafeteria, not having his own lunch and not particularly caring to ask others for food. He wondered if this was something he should be concerned about.

Chiyo opened her mouth to reply, but then closed it again. "Alright. Yes. Let's go. We'll talk there."

She turned and began to walk towards the roof, not bothering to check if her friends were following, but not going particularly quickly either.

Hiroko stared after her friend, then made to catch up with her. Being a track team member, she did this pretty easily. She slowed to Chiyo's pace when she caught up with her, adjusting her bundle of food.

"Hey, wait up!" she said, smiling. "We don't want to leave Hikari-chan behind."

Already up on the roof was Andrea, who had avoided luncheon with her usual superficial crowd in favor of her own company, or lack thereof. A vague sense of discontent had stolen over her, a rarity as she was normally lacking in the department of her own self-hatred. As if something more was missing from her already empty life- something critical. Freindship? Love? Forfillment? She had resigned herself to lacking those perpetually. Leaning into the safety fences, hands inflamed by the pressure of the hard metal, Andrea wondered what had departed from her.

—Natsuko Hikari—

Hikari followed the two up the stairs, a little bit behind them so she could... No. She sped up a bit and walked side by side with Hiroko, until the three reached the roof.

Changed a bit due to ninjaing.

Hiroko looked at the blond-haired girl leaning on the safety railing on the roof and quirked an eyebrow. "Andrea? What are you doing up here? Did you come up here to eat lunch too?"

Chiyo's face broke into a smile. She ran to the fence, excitedly looking out at the city beyond. She used to love a good natural landscape, but cityscapes had never had held her attention. That was unchanged. What fascinated her now was how high up she was. Well, that, and how close to the building's edge she was.

What little indecision was left within her evaporated. Chiyo somehow knew exactly what she should do. She turned back towards her friends, scarcely noticing Andrea's presence.

"I'm going to leave now!" She announced, brightly and cheerfully, "Anyone want to come with me?"

Hiroko stared at her friend, utterly and completely confused. "what are you talking about? We just got up here."

After that brief bit of confusion, realization creeped up on Hiroko. Chiyo wasn't talking about going back downstairs. All her talk about what happens after you die... But... she's not going to do it, is she? It's just a joke.

Hiroko took a step towards Chiyo, placing her food bundle aside. "What are you doing?"

She took another few steps towards her friend.

Chiyo's smile faltered for a second. Not out of hesitation, but out of disappointment.

"Oh. You don't want to come with me? Too bad. I'll be lonely up there without my friends…"

She shrugged, and then turned her back to them, absentmindedly scratched her neck, and began to climb the fence.

"Chiyo!" Hiroko shouted, running over to the smaller girl and trying to pull her off of the fence. "What are you thinking? You could get yourself killed!"

She grabbed at Chiyo.

Without hesitating, Hikari dropped her lunchbox to the ground and rushed to pull Chiyo off the fence.

Andrea heard Hiroko, found herself paying an unusual amount of attention to it. Keeping her back to them, she responded with her cheery voice:

Yeah... I was just a bit tired of others, so I...

That was when Chiyo ran to the edge and said what she did. Andrea's blood ran cold, she slowly turned her head to face the girl. Oh god, she hadn't sensed a Witch around. There was no way... And yet, Andrea somehow doubted this was a joke. She felt for the reassuring cold of her Soul Gem, tied into a metal bracelet around her wrist. She tensed, ready for a worst-case scenario where she might have to intervene, but otherwise joined Hikari in pulling the wayward Chiyo down.

Chiyo struggled against the other girls with increasing desperation, though her small size meant they were successful in pulling her off the fence and restraining her.

"No! Let me go! There's nothing left for me here!"

"You're... you're serious?!" Hiroko asked, disbelieving as she tried to hold Chiyo down. "But... but that's not you! You've... you're not depressed, you've never thought of anything like this!"

This... I'm bored almost any time I'm not with my friends, but I'd never think of something like this! was among the thoughts that raced through her head as she tried to keep the smaller girl restrained.

Suddenly, the scene in the rooftop started to change... the light from the sun became cleared and brighter... progressively washing out the colors from their surroundings.

Little by little, the scenery of the city became harder to make out from the brightness the sun projected.

Hikari's eyes were brimming with tears, and although she wanted to hide them, she was too concerned for Chiyo's safety. "Why did you do that? You know damn well there's plenty of stuff for you here! I know this city is pretty dull, but you'll be out soon!"

Hiroko was about to say something else, trembling from the whole incident, but the light from the sun started ot distract her. Unconciously, she shielded her eyes with her right arm. It hadn't been this bright just a few seconds ago, had it? And the color seemed to be leaking out of everything...

Hiroko shook her head. Was she dreaming or something? That would explain Chiyo's attempted suicide, and what was happening now. At least, her thoughts were near that. The aforementioned sucide attempt had left her shaken, and she had to keep Chiyo from trying again.

Andrea sensed the change, let go of Chiyo in suprise. It was a Witch...

And the others were standing right in the middle of it's opening domain.

She cursed inwardly, a hand went to her soul gem. She had tried het hardest to never meet a Witch with others around. Andrea had feared the consequences that would be involved. Now it seemed like she had no other option.

As the girls talked their environment suffered an even more drastic change, turning into something completely unlike the reality they were used to. The intense white of the light blanked out everything around them, only for a great collection of bizarre parchment like figures of different religious symbols to take their place, hovering eerily in all directions.

A lot of strange tree like constructs of different metals also appeared out of the whiteness, the biggest of which spiraled upwards, with the girls standing in the middle of the spiral. Protruding from the metal trees, there hanged a great amount of books, hanging like fruits from the limbs of the metallic constructs.
