The current name has a decent number of wicks and inbounds, and little misuse. You need a stronger case than "I think it could be better".

"Demoted" is closer to Exactly What It Says on the Tin. "Degraded" CAN be used to mean the same thing, but it's more often associated with its "humiliated" connotation.
In any case, thanks for switching the page quotation. I think this one more clearly describes the trope.

I agree, "degraded" has stronger negative connotations than "demoted". "Demoted" tends to be viewed as something forced upon from the outside (which is exactly the case: developers demote a boss to a regular enemy later), while "degraded" can be a self-inflicted thing.

Indeed. The question comes with whether or not a clearer new name is worth renaming for; I happen to think it is.
EDIT: As for the idea that it has a lot of inbound links, the question is how many more it might have if it had a clearer name...

I'm for giving it a redirect. "Degrade" to me means "to decrease in quality," which is pretty much what happens to "bosses" that you get used to seeing as random monsters.
I reject your requirement for a witty statement or fanboyish squealing in my signature.
I agree that Demoted would have been better, and it woulda been nice if it'd come up in the original YKTTW, but at this point, we have 228 wicks and 560 inbounds, so the current title is already very well-established and we shouldn't be messing with it. Demoted Boss is a good redirect.
Rhymes with "Protracted."
The name is logical enough to my mind, but a redirect would still be nice. Demoted Boss works fine.
So I recently put forth this idea
in YKTTW and was told it was already here in the form of Degraded Boss. Upon looking at the trope, it appears that it really is the same thing. However, I think it could use a rename. "Degraded" sounds more like "humiliated." I would think "demoted" would be a little more fitting.
Also, could I replace the current page quotation with the one from my YKTTW? I think mine does a better job of describing the trope. (The current one just seems confusing if you ask me.)
