Patch 2.3 Patch Notes

Lots of stuff here, way too much to write out in the time I have, but some highlights include:

Features

• Ruins of Sescheron added, as noted earlier, for Adventure Mode only.
• Kanai's Cube will be unlocked via a quest granted by Zoltan Kulle in Adventure Mode. Initial powers include:
  • Destroy a Legendary item to add its special power to the list of powers that you can equip. Equip one armor, one weapon, and one jewelry power on your character to gain their passive effects.
  • Reroll a Legendary item entirely (can roll as Ancient as well).
  • Upgrade a Rare item to a Legendary item of the same base type.
  • Convert a Set item to a random different item within that set.
  • Remove the level requirement on an item.
  • Convert 9 gems to a different type.
  • Convert 100 of any crafting material to a different crafting material.
• Season Journey: Covered previously.

Game Mechanics

• All monsters will benefit from CC resistance and it stacks up to 95%. Knockbacks will be on CC resistance, but will affect more types of monsters.
• Gems below level 61 condensed into 5 tiers.
• Class skills rebalancing, see notes for details.
• New Legendary gems and Set/Legendary item changes, see notes for details.

• Bounties modified
  • Only one bonus per game, changes every hour or when you clear one.
  • Bonus bounty awards an extra Horadric Cache.
  • Cache now drops Act-specific legendary crafting materials and a guaranteed Legendary or pattern.
  • Blood shards no longer awarded from individual Bounties.

• Nephalem rifts modified
  • Rifts of Trials removed.
  • Rift keystone shards removed. You can open a Rift without using one.
  • Greater Rift Keystones are now generic and can drop at any difficulty level.
  • When entering a Greater Rift, you can choose the difficulty based on your current difficulty level or one higher than the highest you've completed.
  • Completing a Greater Rift will no longer offer the option to upgrade your keystone.

• Crafting modified
  • Low level crafting mats removed.
  • No more Magic and Rare recipe drops. Recipes will fill in as you level up the Blacksmith.
  • Forgotten Souls no longer used to craft Legendaries, replaced by the Act-specific crafting reagents.

• Significant changes to monsters.

Many of these changes seem quite welcome. I'm wondering how terrifying the reagent cost will be to use Kanai's Cube...

.... Okay so I just beat Malthael and finished Campaign with my Wizard.

... Now what?

You Win. You have finished the story mode, and as such you need do nothing else. Of course, if you want to explore the game fully, you can:

• Replay the campaign from any point at a higher difficulty level.
  • Of note: while you are level 60 or below, Diablo always drops a Legendary item when you kill him in a given campaign, and Malthael always drops a Legendary item. You must Reset Quests in order to get this again, though.
• Make new characters to experience the game from a different perspective and with different skills.
  • You can craft gear for them or hand it down to them via your Stash to make their experience faster.
• Enter Adventure Mode and take on ever-increasing challenges for legendary gear.
• Join co-op games and play with friends or strangers.
• Earn achievements to show off your prowess.
• Create a Seasonal hero and test how fast you can level up, gaining access to unique gear in the process.

If you aren't already level 70, when you get there you will gain access to Paragon levels, which allow your power to increase more or less indefinitely.

First character I ever created was a monk.

Little bastard was like a chainsaw made of fists and feet.

And one of the funniest things I remember happening is getting an unidentified item and having it being Leoric's crown.

Before I fought Leoric.

My first hero was a Barbarian, and I really enjoy Cleave + Rupture as a primary skill. My favorite hero right now is a Wizard.

Seasonal hero? But I use PS 3, remember? I don't think I can transfer my character to PC.

Oh, sorry. I forgot about your ... unfortunate handicap. Well, everything else I said still pertains.

My first first hero, when the D3 demo was out, was a Witch Doctor. Rolled a Wizard when the game actually released and played through campaign with a friend twice.

At some point I started playing Monk and I haven't really looked back since. Monk is so damn awesome.

Is that like the Horadric Cube?

It's the advanced version.

I think I'm more of a guy who would name my characters after 'official' or 'existing' sources. Which is why my female mage was named 'Li-Ming' (after the Firefly comic) and planning to name the Barbarian, DH, Witch Doctor and Crusader after their monikers in Heroes Of The Storm: Sonya, Valla, Nazeebo and Johanna. I wish I'd go for the Monk next, but... it's only a few weeks or months until he comes to HOTS and gets a semi-official name...

My first character is my demon hunter, happy fun shooty times for all.

I've been consistently disappointed by the witch doctor, just not as fun as I hoped.

First D3 character ever was a Demon Hunter during those dark ages when it first came out on the pc and you couldn't play because the fuckin game's always online and the servers or whatever were always full and every three bloody seconds you'd get pm from a bot hawking some hacked item or other for $99999999 USD.

Features which are gloriously absent from the PS 4, on which my first character was a Wizard.

And bite your tongue, thou charlatan cur. Witch Doctor is awesome.

Haven't touched this for about half a year. What've I missed?

Content-wise, not a lot — we're only now getting some genuinely new Adventure Mode material in the upcoming 2.3. That said, there've been a lot of quality of life improvements over the past few minor patches.

I decided that I'll try to find a way to the Whimsyshire. But that Gibbering Gemstone just won't show itself.

So, finally having Teh Employment once again, I bought Reaper of Souls on a sale. Do I want to run Act V on my main and finally get paragon levels unlocked or monkey with a crusader? Do I gain paragon levels on pre-60 alts?

You only gain paragon experience on level 70 characters.

Yep, although you can earn Paragon levels on level 60 characters with an account that has not unlocked Reaper of Souls, or at least you could.

Patch 2.3 Preview: Ruins of Sescheron

Every time I watch the Lord of Destruction intro cinematic, it seems like less and less is happening. @_@

I don't follow. :S

Well, it's beautifully-rendered, but it mostly just conists of Baal walking up to a barbarian outpost and blowing up a dude. We don't even see his army do much of anything besides charging at the fortress at the end.
