That could be it, I usually almost always walk around with the ice+stone armor. I tried a fire A fire and rock variant to deal with the dwarf mages and the salamanders but... I don't last long.

I actually discovers the steam plus lighting combo about two or three days ago and have been using it generously ever since. My favourite way to use it is to use the shield plus steam and lighting to make a ring around myself and once the enemy starts walking through it I teleport away so they have to walk through it some more to get to me.

As the guy that likes to freeze everything at all times,I was able to discover the arcane+frost combo beats salamanders on my own. The salamanders are only a problem when I have to fruit them a the same time as the dwarf mages and their cronies. If they haven't killed me then by the time I have defeated the warriors I usual get rocked immediately.

Another thing: If you cast rock/fire/arcane/shield in front of you, enemies will attack it before you, and it'll explode in their faces. Other shield shenanigans include a stormcloud in front of you, then retreat a little and put up a vanilla shield, keeping them electrocuted while they try to get pass the barrier. Alternatively, one of the most destructive combos in the game is lightning/arcane/ice/steam/shield (I think, I can't recall if steam and ice cancel each other out. If they do, just ignore the steam). Cast it on yourself first, then on your sword (shift+m3). Then use it on a crowd and watch everything die (though if unshielded, so will you).

The most effective weapon that I used (and I've mentioned it before in this thread) was Ice, Cold, Shield, Arcane, Lighting cast on the sword, and then struck towards the enemy. It spawns a line of icy rocks that cause damage instantly and over time, as well as exploding when their time is up. They also slow the enemies down, which is handy. The thing to remember with that one is that you also need to be protected against Arcane, Cold, and Lightning - otherwise you'll die from exposure to the Lightning and Arcane damage radiated by the rocks, or by the Arcane blast of the explosions.
