Star Wars is not "the future," but, much more importantly, as far as I know, the Star Wars universe is not a reversion of an earlier time period. Perhaps more of that is established in the expanded universe or whatever, but basing my position strictly from the material in the two movie trilogies, this isn't explored.

It don't need to be a complete reversion. Star Wars has many Medieval Fantasy elements, such and 'princess', 'queens' and 'samurai-ish knights'.
Of course, Star Wars is not "the future" at all, but I am not sure if this part is really important. I think the core of this trope is 'futurist setting with elements of the past'.

The description of this currently requires that it take place in the future. Is this necessary for the trope? I took out a Star Wars example but now I'm not sure—are Star Wars examples this, or Fantasy Counterpart Culture? Or is this just the sci-fi version of Fantasy Counterpart Culture?
